ALEXA’S POV (EVA)

Fuck!

I totally forgot about Jace.

“Erm.. Xavier, you need to rest now” I said, helping him lay down on the bed.

“Are you going somewhere?” Xavier asked.

“ Yeah, I need to visit a friend” I lied.

“ Must you? “Xavier asked with a frown.

“ Yeah, it’s urgent and besides quit acting like I’m your girlfriend” I snapped and the door flung open, revealing Liam.

“Oh, look who we have here?” Liam exclaimed, making me hiss.

“ Good timing Liam, you can take care of Xavier when am gone” I replied and stood up, heading to the door but Liam’s voice halted me.

“The commissioner is here to see Xavier” Liam said and I turned.

“ You mean, right now?” Xavier asked.

“Yes, right now” The commissioner said, stepping in.

“ Sir!” Xavier and I greeted.

“How are you doing, agent Xavier?” Commissioner inquired.

“ I’m feeling better now. Eva have been taking good care of me” Xavier replied winking at me, which I returned with a glare.

“The board heard about what happened to you, so we decided that you’ll stop handling the case for the mean time, until you’ve recovered” Commissioner announced.

“ But sir I’m perfectly okay” Xavier protested.

“ The doctor said you need enough rest to recover, so you can’t continue with the case for the mean time” Commissioner replied.

“ But……

“No if and buts Xavier” Commissioner cut in.

“ Okay, Sir” Xavier replied with a sad sigh.

“Good. I’ll get going now, take care of yourself Xavier” Commissioner said, heading to the door.

“I’ll see you off Sir” I offered, joining him.

When we got outside, Commissioner entered his car and drove off, while I headed to the hide out.

When I reached our hide out, the first person I saw was Veera.

“Alexa!” She called, pulling me to a hug.

“ Where have you been this days?” She asked, pulling away from the hug.

“I’ve been really busy lately, I even forgot about Jace” I replied.

“ How is he?” I asked.

“ He’s recovering quickly”Veera replied.

“ That’s a relief. I need to see Boss, he must be extremely angry with me” I said.

“ Yeah,he sure is” Veera remarked

I headed to Boss’ room and knocked.

“Come in” His muscular voice said from inside and I entered.

“Boss” I greeted immediately I stepped in.

“ So you actually remember you have a boss?” He asked but I kept quiet.

“ You’ve been busy taking care of the enemy, that you forgot about Jace and I” He added.

“ I didn’t mean to do so. I’ve been busy trying to make sure I’m not suspected for shooting Xavier” I replied.

“ I have a mission for you “Boss said, changing the topic.

“I’m ever ready for it Boss” I replied, excitement running through me.

Those 5 days I haven’t killed anyone felt as if a part of me have been removed.

“I’ll send you the details. First of all, go check on Jace” Boss said and I nodded and left to Jace’ room.

I entered his room and he was busy with his laptop.

“Jace” I called and he turned immediately.

He stood up and started heading towards me with a broad smile displayed on his lips.

“How have you been?” I asked with a plain expression.

“I’m perfectly fine as you can see” He replied.

“ I didn’t mean to not come to check on you” I said.

“ I totally understand Alexa, you had to do the most important things first” He replied with a smile.

“It’s a good thing you understand, that’s what I like about you” I said and he let out a slight laugh.

“ You can say that again” He replied, still laughing.

Yeah that’s one problem with him, he laughs kinda too much to my likeness.

“ I’ll have to go now, I don’t Xavier to suspect anything” I said.

“ Oh, sure. Take care of yourself” He waved.

“ And you too” I replied and left.

Biding goodbye to Veera, I went back to the hospital.

Xavier was later discharged in the evening and I took him home.

I prepared dinner for him and passed it to him when a message from Boss popped into my phone.

After reading the information carefully I deleted the message.

“What’s that?” Xavier asked.

“A message, are you going to ask me what the content is?” I asked and he nodded negatively.

“I have to go now” I said and turned to leave but his voice halted me.

“Eva” He called and I stopped.

“What?” I asked.

“Erm..Can you stay in my room for a while?” He asked and I almost choked.

“ And why should I?” I questioned with a deep frown.

“It’s a request Eva, besides the doctor instructed you to take good care of me, so you don’t have a choice “He replied, making me hiss.

“ Go tell that fucking doctor of yours that I’m not your wife” I snapped.

“ Ok, fine, please” He requested pouting and my heart skipped immediately.

Fuck! He looks extremely cute.

Stop it Alexa.

“Quit pouting like an idiot” I snapped.

“ I’ll stop if you promise you’ll stay” He demanded and I glared at him.

“ Fine, but only so that you’ll stop pestering my life. I just pray you’ll get better soon, so I won’t have to take care of you” I replied and he smiled.

I sat down on the bed and he closed his eyes but opened it back, staring at me.

“What?” I asked.

“Am finding it difficult to sleep and I think staring at your face will make me fall asleep” He replied and I almost knocked his tooth out.

“Moron,quit staring at me and go to sleep” I hissed, feeling irritated already.

“ Why? Is it because you feel butterflies whenever I stare at you? ”He asked making me snort loudly.

“ That can never happen, not even in your wildest dreams” I snapped.

“ Now go to sleep or else I’m leaving” I added tapping his head, making him grunt like a pig.

He took my hand into his and soon, he was asleep.

After making sure he was fast asleep, I gently removed his hand from mine and tiptoed out of his room.

When I got to my room, I quickly changed into my Ninja outfit and slide down through the window with a rope.

Time for action.

NEXT MORNING

XAVIER’S POV

I gently opened my eyes looking around but I didn’t see Eva.

Anyways, what was I expecting, for her to sleep in my room?

I chuckled gently, remembering how Eva feed me at the hospital. That thought alone, brought a smile to my face. I never knew she was this caring.

I crawled out of the bed and headed to the bathroom. I took my brush and applied some toothpaste on it and started brushing.

I look up to the mirror in front of me and saw Eva standing behind.

“Eva?” I called surprised and she flashed me a smile, making my heart skip immediately.

Wait.

Am I dreaming or what?

Eva smiled at me for the first time since I knew her. I turned immediately and saw no one.

That was when I realized I was only hallucinating stuffs.

I should have known it was my imagination when Eva smiled at me because she can never do that in her right sense, not even in my wildest dreams.

“What is wrong with you Xavier?” I asked.

“ I can’t believe am even imagining her with me. You must be going crazy Xavier or should I say I’ve already gone crazy” I muttered to myself.

But I seriously don’t understand this feelings I’m having for Eva lately. I can’t seem to get her out of my head.

I was done brushing and headed back to my room.

I message popped on my laptop and I crawled to my bed to go through it.

I opened the message and when I saw the picture displayed on my screen, I almost puked.

What’s this?

The picture of Mr. Alexandra was shown, his body splatted into two and hanging on his fan.

Jeez!

How can someone be this heartless?

Then something drawn on me immediately.

I wasn’t serious with this case. I’ve been so relaxed with finding this enemy of mine but not anymore.

I have to do something. I need to think.

How is possible that she is always one step ahead of us?

Why does it look like she always figured out our plan even before we carry it out?

I stood up from the be and started pacing around the room.

This only means one thing;

Either this assassin is among us or she has someone working for her who is among us.

But who?

Something hit my brain immediately.

I once shot the assassin and I’m sure the people who cleared up the scene must have something that can help me catch this assassin.

I brought out my phone and placed a call across Zoey.

I asked her whether they still have anything connected to that day and she said yes.

I ended the call and headed downstairs.

I met Eva already done with preparing breakfast.

Wow, that’s unlike her.

“Good morning” I greeted but she ignored as usual.

“ What’s in for breakfast?” I asked.

“Why did come downstairs by yourself?” She asked already red in anger.

“ Chill, I didn’t want to stress you” I replied.

“ I can’t believe I’m now preparing breakfast for you “She said and I chuckled.

“ It’s not funny, Xavier “She snapped.

“Sorry” I said trying not to laugh but I couldn’t.

She sent me those deadly glares and I kept shut and started digging in.

I was almost done with my food when Eva spoke up.

“I’ve been thinking about something lately” She said and I looked up.

“ And what’s that?” I asked.

“It’s about the assassin “She replied.

“Ever since we’ve been handling this case, we haven’t figured out anything reasonable and that is because she’s always one step ahead of us “She paused and I stared at her waiting for her to finish what she wanted to say.

“ And if you come to think of it, there’s only two possibilities that she’s always ahead of us…

“ Either, there’s a mole among us or…..

“The assassin herself is among us” I completed and she nodded.

“ I’ve been thinking about it too” I said.

“ So how do you think we’re gonna figure out which one is the truth? “She asked.

“ We have someone to go Eva and I think we’ll be able to find out the truth when we get there” I said.

“ And where is that? “She asked

“You’ll get to know once we reach” I replied.

“ I hate been kept in suspense” She snapped.

“ Chill, you’ll find out soon, Ok”I replied and she hissed.

“ I’m done. I’ll go freshen up and you should do the same” I said standing up.

“ Make sure to take your medicine moron”She said and left.

We got to the C.I.A headquarters and Zoey was there to welcome us and usher us in.

“What are we doing here?” Eva asked.

“You’ll find out soon” I replied.

Zoey showed us some of the things present at the scene which includes; Some foot prints, the bracelet I thought was Eva’s and wait a minute,

Blood!

“Whose blood drops is that?” I demanded.

“This belong to the assassin” Zoey replied.

“ Fuck! You guys didn’t inform me about it earlier. This is all I need to track her down” I exclaimed.

“ Send this blood samples to the laboratory now” I on lol commanded and Zoey nodded.

“ The result will out in not less than half an hour “Zoey replied and left.

ALEXA’S POV

“The result will be out in not less than half an hour” Zoey said and fear ran through me.

Fuck!

Why didn’t Xavier inform me about this earlier, I would have known what to do. If my blood samples are scrutinized, my cover will be blown.

I informed Boss about everything and also the location of the laboratory through a text message.

“Let’s go” Xavier said and we left.

“Are we going to the laboratory?” I asked.

“ No, we’re going home” Xavier replied.

We arrived home and Xavier slumped to the coach immediately.

I headed to the kitchen to get myself some water.

I was gulping down the water when both our phone rang.

I answered mine and put it on a speak out.

“Agent Eva” Commissioner called.

“Sir” I replied.

“Is Xavier with you?” He asked.

“Yes, I’m right here Sir” Xavier replied.

“Is there a problem, Sir?” I asked.

“The laboratory, the one you guys sent that blood samples to be scrutinized?” Commissioner began

“What happened to it Sir?” Xavier asked.

“ The laboratory have been blown up” Commissioner announced.

“ What!!!!!”Xavier and I exclaimed.

An evil and satisfactory smirk formed on my lips immediately.

Wow.
