Today marks a new beginning in my life, I'm resuming today at Pembrook High School also known as one of the best high school in the city.

I got up early for my morning jog, dressed up and went downstairs but my mum wasn't awake. As I opened the front door, I was welcomed by the cold breeze of the morning.

With my face towel around my neck and my headset around my ears I began to jog. I jogged for minutes then I sighted a bench under a tree so I sat down and relaxed before I went back home.

By the time I got home, my mum was already setting the dining almost ready for work so I immediately went upstairs directly to the bathroom, pulled off my clothes and switched on the shower. The warm water caressed my skin making me feel refreshed and alive then I dried my body and went inside my room

I sat in front of the mirror and dried my air then I went to my closet to select a dress. After much deliberation, I selected a big top and baggy trousers with sneakers to match then I tied my hair in a bun and went downstairs

I didn't feel like eating this morning so I skipped breakfast. My mum was worried but after much persuasion from her I took coffee and waited for my mum. When she was done, we both went to the garage and entered the car then she drove out of the compound

While my mum was driving, she looked at me and smiled then she said

"You look nervous, Akira"

"I'm not. I'm just trying not to think too hard"

"You'd be fine baby, just don't think too hard about anything" she squeezed my hand reassuringly

I smiled and thanked her. Finally she pulled up in front of my school, I got down and waved at her till her car was out of sight

I face palmed myself, breathed in and out and assured myself I'd be fine

I walked into the school and went straight to my locker. I looked around and saw a few students starting at me

"Gosh, I hate being the centre of attraction"

I ignored them and took out my books as I was about to walk to class, I sighted Avery running to where I was leaving her brother behind

"Yo Kira, what's good? You didn't tell me you'd be attending Pembrook yesterday" she said faking annoyance

" My bad, I totally forgot. I'm so sorry" I said hugging her

" What class are you having now" I asked her

"History"

"Wow, that's the class I'm also having so let's go" I said holding her hands while we walked to class

Avery and I were talking as we walked inside the hallway as soon as she saw whoever it was, she ditched me for the person. I didn't know who it was because I've never seen the person's face before and I wonder where Avery knew her from

That was when I recalled yesterday's incident and I was shocked because the girl I'm seeing today was different from the one I saw yesterday. Her dressing made her look like weird and nerdy if I hadn't seen her yesterday I'd have thought she's a new nerd in the school.

I kept staring at her with a shocked expression on my face before the boys walked up to me

"Yo Aiden, you look like you've seen a ghost" Derrick asked

"Exactly man, I was just about to ask him" Mason interjected

Those are my best friends in school also we're on the basketball team together they might be as annoying as my sister but they know and understand me alot

"Really, it's nothing" I said looking at them

"I heard a new student just resumed today and she looks boring" Mason said

"Boring??? " I said acting naive

"Gosh you need to see the way she was dressed and to think I even saw Avery walking with her, smiling and chatting like they've known each other before" Derrick added

Unsure of what to say, the bell rang and saved me from saying anything. I and Mason had the same class, Algebra while Derrick had History

I so much hate that subject but I've got no choice because I need it alot

During class, I kept receiving stares from all angles of the class while we were waiting for the teacher

I felt very uncomfortable but Avery was always reassuring me that it's nothing. She was also curious but she kept her questions to herself which I appreciated

I know y'all are also curious but trust me what I've gone through wouldn't allow me make another mistake so I needed to start from my dressing so I'd create a boring impression and wouldn't be focused on so much but I was wrong

Thankfully, the teacher came and noticed me then he asked me to introduce myself. I stood up, cleared my throat and said

"I'm Kira Anderson"

"Nice to have you here and I hope you enjoy your stay here", he said smiling at me

After the introduction, he started class which I found interesting and I seemed to vibe along like as though have been here for long

Every other class was the same and it was time for recess. I waited for Avery by my locker after I dropped my books inside while waiting a girl walked up to me alongside two girls.

The one who led the squad whom I guess was the leader was chewing her gum noisily. She had a blonde hair with fake lashes on, lots of makeup that made her look like a mannequin and a bright red lipstick making her look bitchy

She waved her hands before my hands so I looked at her

"I heard you're the new girl" she said

She then looked at her minions and said "she sure looks boring" while those idiots bursted into fits of laughter

"Hey nerdy, welcome to Pembrook where I rule and I'm the queen. I do whatever I want with whoever I wish and no one dare question me on whatever it is I did so I just decided to inform you so you'd watch your back" she blew her gum in my face and left with her minions

I just watched her retreating figure and found all she said amusing, if only she knew who she's about to mess with.

Avery came and we walked together to the cafeteria, we bought our foods and were walking to a table Avery sighted at one corner in the cafeteria when a girl walked up to me and intentionally spilled her soup on me

I was shocked so was Avery. I looked around and saw everyone pointing fingers at me and were laughing

"So they find this amusing" I thought inwardly

I decided to play it cool and let it slide because I don't wanna create a scene so I went to the bathroom to clean my clothes but the smell still lingered on making me look dirty

I had two classes left before school was over and luckily for me the day went by so fast favouring me

I hurried out of the class ignoring Avery's persistent call but she was fast as she caught up with me

She obstructed my way, hands on her waist and staring at me straight in the eye with concern in them

"I'm so sorry Kira, I should have helped you"

"It's fine Avery, I can handle myself"I said smiling back

"So much for being able to handle yourself" she muttered incoherently but I heard which I ignored

We walked out together while I was waiting for my mum to pick me up, her text popped on my phone

"I'm very busy at work honey, take a taxi home. Love you"

"Arrrrrrgh, did she have to do this" I muttered

" You can ride with me and at least be understanding, she's busy" Avery spoke

I hopped into her car, she ignited the engine and hit the road. While she was driving she kept stealing glances at me and it was making me really uncomfortable so I spoke up

"Stop stealing glances at me, it looks creepy" I said rolling my eyes

" I'm just surprised. Yesterday at church you dressed beautifully but today at school you just dressed like someone who's suffering and I know ya not"

" Why did you dress like this and don't tell me nothing because I Know there is something"

I inhaled then exhaled deeply

" You really shouldn't bother much about it and moreover I don't wanna talk about anything for now and I'd love it if you respect my decision. I dressed that way yesterday because it was my first day in church and I didn't want to screw it"

" You really don't wanna talk about it"

" Yes and I'd love it if you don't ask me about it again"

She pulled up at my house making the discussion come to an abrupt end, I hugged and thanked her for the drive then I went inside
