Chapter 6

Chapter 6

I laid down on my bed reminiscing on old times. Those times when I had the perfect family, loving parents anyone would wish for

My dad was a successful business man and was the best father I'd ever wish for. He was always busy but made time for me and my mum

He was always buying me and my mum gifts on his way back from work. Saturdays and Sundays were my best days because dad normally take us out either to shop, go to the park or a fancy restaurant to have a nice time

His death came as a shock to me and my mum but it affected my mum more than it affected me and it remained fresh in my memory

It was a beautiful Saturday morning as the sun shone brightly from its position brightening up the day

We were all having breakfast when my dad said he was going on a business trip for a week. My mum wasn't having any of it as she dropped her spoon and was about to stand up when my dad pulled her back but this time closer to himself

"Is it a must you go" my mum said pouting like a child

"Ivanna, you know if it isn't important I won't go" he said caressing my mum's hair

"Can't you postpone it" my mum asked again

"Sorry to disappoint you sweetheart, it can't be postponed" he answered calmly

All this while I sat there quietly watching the love these two displayed. My parents have never fought not argued even if they do, they've never done so in my presence

"Can we at least follow you" she said referring to me and her

For once since this conversation began, I felt I needed to contribute

"Yes daddy, can't we go together" I said looking at my dad keenly

He sighed and beckoned on me to come over, I left my seat and went over to him. He lifted me off the ground and placed me on his laps then said

"It isn't a family vacation Akira, it's a business trip that's why you can't follow me" he explained to me the best way he can

He looked at his wrist watch and then my mum

"My flight is in thirty minutes. We can drive down to the airport together" he said

And with that, he carried me all the way to inside the car while my mum still had a gloomy look on her face. The ride to the airport was quiet and I decided to say something

"Dad what would you buy for me on your way back"

"Anything I find befitting for my princess" he said smiling

"Won't you ask me to get you anything" he said turning to my mum

"All I want is just for you to stay back at home" she said fuming

I found my mum's attitude that morning amusing and weird at the same time. This isn't the first time my dad's going on a business trip so why's she creating a scene

We finally got to the airport and my mum helped my dad with his suitcase and bags while we waited for the announcement, my dad hugged my mum.

Then the announcement came and my dad disetangled from the hug and kissed my mum for what seemed like eternity

"All passengers going to Canada France should get on the plane" the announcement came again and my dad broke the kiss and caressed my mum's face then crouched down to my level and kissed my forehead

He carried his baggages and was waving at us, unknowing to me and my mum it would be the last goodbye we ever got from him.

Back to the present

That was the last time I saw my loving father, I still remembered that huge smile plastered on his handsome face. I missed him alot then I slept off thinking about my dad

I was up so early the next day. I took my bath taking more time than usual because I was washing my hair. No one in school knew I had a long hair not even my friends because it's always tied up in a bun

I got out, dried my hair then took out a top and long gown from my closet with sneakers to match. I dressed up and went down then I saw my mum carrying the laundry basket so I helped her with it and dropped them in the laundry room.

When I dropped it, I turned and saw my mum giving me a crazy look

"What in heaven's name are you putting on Kira" she exclaimed shocked

"You look like a commoner"

"Mum I'm not going for a party and no one's gonna check me out in the cinema" I shrugged and left the house before she could say another word

I got to Jayden's house after minutes of long walk and met him alongside Avery waiting for me

"What the fuck are you wearing" Avery looked at me like a piece of shiy

"I think she looks beautiful" Jayden said trying to suppress a laugh but couldn't and ended up bursting out, laughing uncontrollably

"Can we go now that I'm here" I said ignoring Avery's comment

We entered and Jayden drove down to the cinema, we still had time when we got there so we bought popcorn and chilled sodas each

"Can't you wear something else. I'm sure you have killer clothes in your wardrobe"Avery said still pissed about my dressing

"You need to let her be Avery, she's old enough to make decisions herself" Jayden said to her

"Stupid and crazy decisions" I heard her mutter

"I thought we already talked about it Avery, just stay out of my business" I said rolling my eyes

"Your business huhn, you are our business" she said pointing to herself and Jayden

"Dressing like this just make people make fun of you and treat you anyhow" she said raising her voice

"Don't you dare raise your voice at me and moreover you have no damn right to control my life as if you are my parent" I said pissed off

Jayden saw this wasn't going to end well and we were as well creating a scene so he intervened which I didn't talk calmly at all

"Girls, you need to calm down and stop this silly act of yours"

"Silly right, she's the silly one right here" I said pointing at Avery

Jayden stopped me before I could say another word and dragged us out of the cinema to his car. We all sat there none of us saying a word

"I need to go home" I said breaking the silence

"But the movie's about to start" Jayden interjected

"You both can watch but am no longer interested" I said and got down from the car

I looked back and saw both of them staring at me but made no attempt to stop me which I was grateful for. I needed space, I needed to clear my head and I only thought of one place; our ice cream joint.

I took a taxi there and on entering I was instantly recognized. I was given my strawberry ice cream and went to an empty seat by the window

Life was being unfair to me" I thought as I scooped ice cream into my mouth

This was the first time we all hanged out and I just had to ruin it. "No I didn't" I suddenly thought, it was Avery's fault she should have minded her business and just kept quiet

I finished my ice cream and went out of the shop. I thought of places to go but I couldn't think of any but home so I started walking home alone

Finally, I was infront of our front porch and opened the door. I saw my mum working on her laptop with a coffee beside her, I walked up to her side and slumped on the couch. She spared me a glance but resumed her work almost immediately, just when I thought she wasn't going to question me she said

"What happened, you look dull"

Trust my mum never to miss any of my facial expressions

"I had a fight with Avery over my dressing"

"Whatever she said Kira is correct, she's right"

"But she had no right to dictate the way I dress for me, she should have mind her business"

"That's why you're friends sweetie so you'd correct one another when one of you make mistakes"

"You need to apologise to her" my mum added

"There's no way I'm doing that" I said not accepting my mum's judgement

"You have to Kira and you're promising me right now" she said looking up from her laptop

"Urrrrgh, fine. I promise I'd do that"

"That's my girl" she smiled at me then resumed her work

I went to my room, jumped on my bed and slept off

I skipped church because I didn't want to see Avery and her crazy brother but taking of her brother

"The guy's hot right"I thought smiling

"No he's not I dislike him" I said shaking my head

"You're lying, he's hot and you don't dislike him" my subconscious mind taunted me
