The corridor stretched before us, dark and endless.

My footsteps echoed against the black stone. Behind me, Seraphine and the warriors moved carefully, their weapons ready.

No one spoke.

Even the strongest wolves seemed to sense the danger surrounding us.

The air was cold.

Not the natural cold of winter.

This cold felt alive.

It crawled beneath my skin and settled inside my bones.

I could feel the Shadow Queen's presence pressing against my mind.

Her voice was soft.

Almost gentle.

I tightened my grip on my sword.
