"What?" my mother asked. "Then why did you say you won five thousand dollars?"

"I won them, but I don't have the money yet. But I'm figuring out how to get it as soon as possible. I have a plan to get it by tomorrow."

"I don't understand, Jake. You say you won, but you're figuring out how to get the money. Why do you have to figure out how to get the five thousand dollars if you've already won the race?" My mother still didn't understand, but I think it was obvious, as I wasn't explaining it very well.
