The old woman stood up from her seat after a while of total silence and looked at both of us with a bright smile on her face.

"I think we should all go outside to enjoy the evening breeze before going to bed," the old woman insisted cheerfully.

I gazed at Eric almost immediately as I waited for him to say something. His mood was dull, and I was really hoping he was going to go out there with the old woman; maybe it will help him feel better.
