The house was squeaky clean when we got in—Detective Davis and I. One would think that it hadn't been thoroughly combed earlier, but when Jade introduced the new detective handling the case to me, he suggested that we searched again.

I didn't understand why he thought that we'd find any evidence especially when I'd never visited Mia before or even knew the layout of her house.

But he was the detective, he was in charge so I could only agree to his suggestions and do as he requested. The good part was that our search was authorized so there was no fear of being charged for trespassing...
