Only now could Kiera and David realise the mistake they made years ago. To their demise, Skyler should've been the one they chose to become alpha. He was logical, strategic and fought with his pack. Not only that but he was a born leader and was damn good at it too. Unfortunately they could not take back their decisions and only regret it for the rest of their lives. It's a wonder how Miller kept the pack floating and managed to grow it to become so well known but in reality it was all Seon's doing not Miller. Miller was just the muscle yet he barely ever led any attacks on other weak packs.
People soon began to whisper of him being a coward and once Kiera and David got word of that, all hell broke loose. Every pack member accused of saying that was banned from the pack. Kiera and David we're harsh on any members or disapproved of Miller's ruling because no aloha ever wanted to be wrong.
"You need to find your mate sweetheart," Kiera cooed as she pinched his cheeks playfully.
"Stop it," Miller slapped her hand away with a gruff,"I will search for my mate when I desire to." Miller said before he left without another word.
Tears swelled up in Kiera's eyes. Day by day Miller grew harsher and harsher towards her and she couldn't fathom for the life of her why. She loved him more than Skyler, she was there for him, overstepping the way telling him what's right and wrong yet now he barely gave her any time of day. She felt like he wasn't the bit she raised and just like that her heart shattered, both her boys finally disowned her and it broke her heart.
A sob escaped her delicate parted lips before she ran to her room in a rash. David was busy watching football when he saw his wife enter their room with tears streaming down her face.
"Baby what's the matter?" David asked worriedly but even Kiera could see the love behind his eyes had faded.
She knew this was coming after all her only use was to bear pups for him and now that she had done that, she was of no use to him. That thought alone made her cry even louder.
David rushed towards her and cradled her in his arms as she fell to her knees. She wasn't his mate they were forced to marry because of their parents so the love in their eyes was merely forced love. He was a powerful alpha and she at the time was from a wealthy family and was one of the most beautiful females he had ever laid eyes on.
He thought that would be enough to carry their family but the resentment they held for each other still burned brightly to this day. A forced marriage wasn't something Kiera ever had in mind yet there she was, more than thirty years later and still married to that man she was wed to.
"What's wrong my love?" David asked gently.
Even though their love wasn't strong he still held an enormous amount of respect towards her. She bared his children after all and that was something he would forever be grateful for.
"It's your fault!" Kiera yelled angrily as she hit his chest over and over.
He didn't have to ask to know what she was talking about. It was his fault and that was something he would never forgive himself for. Back then he truly believed he was doing what was best for the pack. Unbeknownst to fact that he was dooming them all.
"I should've picked Skyler," David said through gritted teeth.
"No you fool!" Kiera yelled,"You should've made them both alphas." Kiera wailed as she slapped his face but he did nothing to defend himself.
He deserved her wrath, she cared more about the children then he did and he was even ashamed to admit it himself. They were his flesh and blood yet all he saw was a successor and a failure.
"I'm sorry my love," he said barely above a whisper.
"Don't call me that," Kiera spat as she pushed him away from her.
"I have had enough of this bullshit," she shrieked in anger.
"Careful what you say next dear, I'm still your alpha." David said in a warning.
"Oh my God, are you that self absorbed?" Kiera scoffed in shock as she stared wide eyed at David.
"Watch your tongue," David said through gritted teeth.
Kiera shook her head disappointingly.
"I should've left town the moment I found out about us," Kiera spat with so much rage and anger that radiated off her in waves.
"Even after all these years you don't see the picture," she carried on as she stood up, wiping her tears away.
"What picture?" David asked angrily as he stood up.
"That you're an idiot!" Kiera yelled as she slapped him hard across the face.
Now if there was one thing alphas hated more then rogues it was being disrespected. Just for that comment Kiera would've been beheaded and she herself knew that as she gasped at her words.
"David," she began with trembling lips. The fear in her eyes was enough to bring back David from his anger filled mind.
He felt his heart deflate at the sight of her fearing him. After all these years they've spent together you'd think she wouldn't fear him. After all these years he figured she would've gotten the news that he would never hurt her yet there she stood shaking on the spot.
"Kiera look at me?" He begged as he walked closer towards her, towering over her small frame.
"I would never hurt you," he whispered as he engulfed her in his large arms.
Kiera couldn't believe that after living in fear of his temper. An alpha with a temper was a bad mixture.
"Are you sure about that?" Kiera asked, making David's heart shatter.
She was questioning his love for her and that stung more than seeing his son, Skyler, leave for good.
"Sure as the day that I was born," David said confidently but Kiera didn't believe that and David himself could understand why.
"All these years together, have I ever harmed you intentionally?" David asked as he started into her eyes.
"Yes," Kiera smirked sheepishly as she remembered their foreplay in the bedroom.
"Other than that," David blushed as every nerve in his body lit up.
"No," Kiera said on a serious note before she sighed heavily.
"I'm tired of this false love game, David. I'm too old for this, I just want a loving partner and I know that's something you can offer me." Kiera said in a sad tone.
"How do you know?" David asked defensively.
"Because I've been married to you for over forty years David. Grow up, there is no one that you love more than yourself." Kiera said angrily.
He had no defence for that one, it was true he was very self absorbed even he couldn't deny that. But to hear that might be the reason as to why Kiera struggled to love him hurt like hell.
"So what now?" He asked with tears blurring his eyes.
"Now we take a break. I can't deal with this ok, I'm heading over to Skyler hopefully he will show me the proper love and affection I deserve." Kiera said blankly before she walked past David and began packing a small suitcase.
He did nothing to stop her because everything she said was true. Their entire relationship was toxic and the only thing that was holding it together was their sons.
Before long she had everything packed and headed towards the door.
"I truly hope you find love David, cause clearly you can't see it when it's right in your face." Kiera spat one last time before she stormed out of the room.
David fell to his knees as he felt his wolf howling in pain as Kiera finally left them for good.
Miller was training outside when he saw his mother getting into a car with her suitcase. To Miller he just assumed she was going on a little trip and ignored her angry facial expression. The only thing he was focused on was winning the match.
"Pay attention Miller!" His sparring partner Kyler ordered.
"Don't tell me what to do doofus," Miller said with a roll of his eye before he put all his attention on Kyle.
In less then a minute he had Kyle pinned to the floor flat on his face yelling 'Get Off!'.
"Sore loser," Miller chuckled like a child.
"Fuck off, if it wasn't for your alpha genes I would've wiped the floor with you." Kyle bragged as he got up breathing heavily.
"Keep dreaming chopsticks," Miller chuckled.
"Just saying man," Kyler laughed lightly as he stretched his sore shoulder.
Kyle was Miller's third in command and as such he had the responsibility of making sure every warrior was in too shape including the alpha. He was basically their personal trainer as well as a war planner. Miller knew for sure he would be lost without Kyle and Seon, they were his brains and bronze.
"What are you going to do about Seon?" Kyle asked gravely.
"Skyler will return him back in one piece, he always does." And with that Miller dismissed another important matter leaving it for Kyle to sort out.
Kyle sighed heavily knowing Miller was just a child in a man's body. With that he concluded the training session and went to train the other warriors. Leaving Miller trying to entertain himself by flexing for the inmates females who came to watch him train.
Skyler meanwhile had just woken up from a wild time with the escort he requested. She had long gone as told and he was once again left waking up to an empty bed feeling for someone who wasn't there. With a heavy sigh he got up and headed to his ensuite bathroom.
One look in the mirror and a scowl plastered on his face. Claw marks freshly healed leaving a red streak down his chest from the escort. He knew it would be gone by the end of the day but he didn't like the sight of it so he turned the shower on the hottest level before getting in.
Scorching hot water blasted down from the ceiling shower as he stood under it. Every inch of his skin turned bright red, turning tender from too much heat. The hot water drowned his loneliness and pain and that's exactly what he needed.
He needed to drown out his wolf as well as the nagging thoughts in his head. For just a couple of seconds he got the peace he needed and wanted.
Silence
Knock knock
His peace was interrupted by a loud banging. He ignored it as he tried to summon that peace once more.
Knock knock
Once again thunderous knocks echoed in his room and with his sensitive hearing it annoyed him beyond words.
"I KNOW YOU'RE IN THEIR YOUNG MAN, OPEN UP!" The sound of his mother surprised him.
His heart skipped a beat and for a second he thought he was dreaming but the knocking on the door said otherwise. Quickly at an inhuman speed he finished showering, changing clothes before opening the door.
