Taking a glance at my phone's screen, I realized that it was Everest, Shantel's boyfriend calling. It caught me off guard as it wasn't something I was ready for right now. So I paused for a moment, debating whether I should answer or not.

He must've been trying to reach Shantel but she wasn't answering. With a quick sigh, I gathered my courage, clearing my throat and answered the call.

"Hello Ava," he said, trying to sound cheerful, but I could sense worry underneath his cheerful voice.
