Blake’s pov
The rain poured mercilessly on me. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me under the rain. Miranda, my stepmother would have my head on a platter if I was late. I didn’t want to give her any more reasons to punish me in the house.
I got to the house and pushed the door open just in time to hear her stepmother’s nasally voice.
“Oh good, you are home. Your chores are waiting for you.”
“I am hungry, Miranda.” I beckoned on my stepmom.
“It’s nobody’s fault that you came home so late. Beatrice has your share.”
I looked at Beatrice but she paid me no attention, her attention was solely on her phone.
I sighed to myself, this wasn’t fair. I ran so fast even though it was pouring outside and yet, there was dinner for me.
The tears threatened to fall but I pushed them back.
“Why are you still standing there? Go dry yourself and resume your chores.” Miranda yelled.
“Yes, ma’am,” I said timidly.
I ignored the brewing pain at the back of my skull and focused on getting the chores done, it was the only way I could enjoy a moment of peace in this house.
I grabbed the broom and started sweeping, each stroke of the broom brought back the pain from school, the laughter and fingers of my classmates who laughed and pointed at me for no reason.
My chest tightened so much that I found myself taking deep breaths to calm myself, it wasn’t enough that they reminded me of my dead mother but they had to bring up my father’s cowardly attitude towards me. He had little or no say in the way Miranda and Beatrice treated me in the house.
All that mattered to him was his young boss and his work. He didn’t care about me or the house. All that bothered him was his work.
A tear rolled down my cheek, I lifted my finger to wipe it away. The only thing in my head was the taunts from school. They brought up my wolf, and my heart almost broke into two.
Since my mother passed away, my wolf because dormant. She was supposed to come out and heighten my abilities but she was a no-show. I broke down in tears as I called out to my wolf.
Maybe she will be the one to save me, to get me out of this misery called life. She was the answer to all the prayers I have been saying. If she could just come out, maybe I will have the courage to stand up to my stepmother and sister.
They were being excessive, but it was me who was being the doormat and letting them walk over me and get away with it.
The head at the back of my neck increased, the black spots dancing around my vision. I shook my head to get rid of them but a bout of nausea hit me causing me to stumble. I grabbed a hold of the sink as I steadied myself.
I took steady breaths as I waited for the nausea to pass away, I felt a little better as I washed my face.
“You are okay, Blake. You are alright. I convinced myself.
I took a step and I found myself falling till my back hit the ground.
“Ow! That hurts.” I glared at the ground like it was responsible for my downfall.
I tried to get up but the spots danced around in my vision once again and I found myself relaxing on the floor. Maybe, if I rest a little I will get better.
My body felt weak like I was barely holding on to my strength.
“Blake! Where are you?” Miranda yelled.
“In here!” I yelled back.
I heard her footsteps as she met me laying down there on the floor.
“I told you to do your chores, why are you goofing around?” she asked with her hands on her hips as she stared down at me.
“I was doing them and I fell. I felt dizzy.”
“I have no time for your jokes, your father will soon be back and I need everywhere cleaned.”
“I will do that, I just need to rest a little. The rain did a number on me.” I plead with her.
Plus, I didn’t eat dinner. I kept this part to myself so she doesn’t react by hitting me.
“I don’t care much for your sass, young lady. Get up and clean this house now!” she glared at me before leaving the kitchen.
I gathered my energy and stood, almost toppling over in the process. I forced myself to hold on till I was done cleaning.
I dragged my feet with it till I was finally done. My father was eating his dinner in the dining room and I was busy slaving. My whole body felt like it collided with a truck.
“Good evening, father,” I said as soon as I came into view.
“Good evening, Blake. Hope you had dinner.”
I opened my mouth to talk but Miranda cut me off.
“Yes, she did that before cleaning.” She said as she cut me a glare.
“Is that true?” my father asked,
I opened my mouth to speak again but nobody cut me off. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as I slumped to the floor.
My senses were still working so I could still hear them.
“What’s wrong with her? I need to get her to the hospital” my father said,
“You say this every time she pulls a stunt like this.”
“Miranda…” he started to say but my stepmother cut her off.
“There is no need for that, just a little sleep will do her some good. There is no need for both of us to miss work over something as little as this.” Miranda convinced my father.
I felt my body being lifted as my father carried me to my room. He shuddered as Miranda reminded him of his boss, the only person my father was scared of.
The tears leaked from the corner of my eye as I finally surrendered to the darkness once more.
