Blake’s pov
My mouth watered from the delicious dream I just had. It was the best I have had since my father married that horrible woman. I sighed contently into my pillow as I recounted the dream.
I felt the softness of the pillow tickle my nose. The soft nudging from the hand urged me to wake up.
“Wake up, sir. We are going to be late for work.” The voice whispered.
I mumbled something incoherent and buried my head in the pillow once more.
“Sir, we have an important meeting this morning and you need to be present.” The voice said again.
I grumbled at the interruption. This was the first time I was waking up from sleep peacefully, well if I could ignore the hand nudging me.
My eyes fluttered open and I found myself staring at an expensive Egyptian cotton sheet, this wasn’t my room.
That was the first thing I noticed, Miranda was so cheap that she couldn’t get this type of sheet for my room, no matter how much I begged her.
The sheets reeked of masculinity and cologne, my initial thought was that I slept over in a stranger’s house but the last thing I remember was hitting the floor as my body gave way to exhaustion.
The words from my parents seared through my heart as my heart remembered the way they abandoned me when I needed them. It was better I died than I woke up to see their faces again.
Someone cleared their throat behind me and tensed.
I yawned and turned just to come face to face with her, she was standing and staring at me with uncertainty in her eyes as she waited for me.
“Excuse me?” I asked,
Her eyes widened and she stepped back immediately.
“I am sorry, sir.” She said.
My eyes narrowed at her, did she just apologize?
Did I die and go to heaven? I narrowed my eyes further as her features registered in my head.
She looked somewhat familiar, I cracked my brain to remember where when it occurred to me.
My eyes widened, I know this face. I remember from the picture my father showed me. He was afraid of his boss but he carried a picture they took together on a work trip and her face was there.
She was the assistant.
My father always complained about his powerful but very easily irritated boss more often than she can count, he listed his capacities and achievements every chance he gets.
So, if this was the assistant and this was the boss’s house. Does this mean…
My eyes shot open as I took in the assistant as she stood there waiting for me, I trailed my eyes down to the suit she had hanging from her fingers.
I did a quick sweep of the room and found myself admiring the décor. He sure lived lavishly.
“What time is it?” I asked as I rubbed my eyes.
This was all still just a dream, it had to be. There was no such thing as soul-shifting in wolves. It was a myth.
We had no connection apart from my father working for him but that wasn’t enough to shift souls.
If I am here in his body, does this mean he was in mine?
If he was how my father described him then Miranda was in trouble. The urge to laugh was there but it wasn’t funny at all.
“Sir?” the assistant prompted.
“Give me a minute, my head is banging.”
“Yes, you worked so late last night. I kept a glass of water and Advil for you.” She gestured to the bedside table.
I grabbed the items and took the drugs just as required.
“The driver would be coming in thirty minutes, I trust you will be ready by then?” the assistant asked.
I nodded, I heard her leave the room, leaving me to my thoughts.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror. He was young and handsome. I always imagined him to be old and grumpy from the descriptions I have heard of him.
I squared my shoulders and smiled at my reflection. If I was here, did it mean that he was in my body too?
I shook my head, my smile widening at the thought of him encountering Miranda.
I showered and wore the suit she left on my bed. It suited my body, his body like it was tailored just for him. I admired myself in the mirror, he was handsome.
“Sir, we are ready to go.” She knocked on my door.
I grabbed the cell phone as I met her outside my door with fresh coffee in her hands.
“I got this for you, just like you like it.” She handed me the cup.
I took a sip of the black drink and found my eyes rolling to the back of my head in pleasure.
“Let’s go,” I said firmly.
I shrugged on my jacket and carried the phones I had no plan of using in my hands as we headed out.
She walked beside me, giving me a summary of the events from yesterday.
“Mr. Lewis submitted the file he messed up yesterday, it’s on your table as we speak.”
My legs faltered at the mention of my father, I kept walking ignoring the look she gave me.
“Your office has been cleaned and ready for you to use, sir.”
“Okay, tell me about the meeting,” I suggested.
“Yes, the management meeting you are supposed to oversee. The department heads are supposed to give a brief presentation about their impending projects for you to choose the one that gets funding.” She rattled off, flipping her notebook as she gave me a rundown of the notes she had.
I nodded, this was going to be hard. I didn’t know my left and right in business management. I read some books but I wasn’t sure they would come in handy right now.
With the popular saying, "silence is golden." I surrendered to the thought of being stuck in the body and playing the role of the boss to men who are much older than I am.
I am not looking forward to it.
Where was the owner of the body when you needed it?
