Blake's pov
Everybody was already seated by the time I got to the conference room. They stood in greeting as soon as they saw me.
I felt a rush of power, being there in a suit and a controlled professional environment gave me the courage I needed to feel in the moment. I felt my wolf stir but I dismissed it. She would come out when she is ready.
"Good morning gentlemen" I greeted back,
They nodded as they took their seats.
"What do you have for me this morning?" I asked no one in particular.
"We were waiting for you, sir" one spoke up.
"I am here now, you may begin." I relax against my chair as I waited.
On my way here, I felt like I was going to die from anxiety. I knew nothing about business and I was entering a room full of businessmen to discuss an important matter. I didn't know what to think, but seating here and staring into some familiar faces from my father's events. I felt a sense of belonging.
I wasn't afraid. I was ready to take on today's work.
"Mr. Dawson, please Lead," I said as I singled out the vice president.
"Thank you," he said as he stood.
He cleared his throat before launching into a detailed presentation of today's meeting. I listened carefully and typed it into my pad just in case I needed to go over it one more time.
"That's not the way it should go, Dawson." Someone interrupted him.
My eyes cut to the man that did, I recognized him as my father's friend. He glared at Dawson and they soon launched into a heated argument about whose way was better.
I watched them with an amused smile on my lips, I finally understand why the owner of this body was angry all the time from the way my father spoke about him.
I would be mad if my subordinates behaved like cavemen all the damn time. He just couldn't catch a break. I could feel a headache coming and gently rubbed my temple.
I watched the old men argue over something so trivial. I felt something hot stir in my chest but I ignored it.
The argument continued for a long time, even though I lost track of what they were arguing about. But in the meantime, I got to know everything about everyone.
This was just like my school, where some classmates just stir up trouble just for the fun of it. They seem to get off on violence just like Dawson. I studied them and the only person who stood out to me was my father's colleague.
I remember my father telling me that his boss and the man don't see eye to eye because he considers himself old enough to be the boss's father and can't seem to take orders from him. I understood that, but that was no reason to neglect your job.
"Should I stop them, sir?" My assistant asked,
"On the contrary, let them continue."
She looked at me with a strange look but otherwise didn't say anything.
"Don't tell me to shut you, you old goat"
"I can call you whatever I want, Dawson."
"The boss specifically called me to make the presentation, what is your problem?" Dawson asked,
"You are my problem."
"Too bad for you,"
"Sir," my assistant called out.
As if they realized I was in the room, they froze. Turning to me with a scared expression. I paid them no attention as I smiled at the rest of the men.
"Are you done?" I asked calmly,
"We are so sorry for the interruption..." I raised a hand to cut him off before turning to my assistant.
"Please order coffee for everyone," I order her, before turning back to them. "I am sure your throats are parched after such an argument." I raised a brow in question.
Their eyes widened in shock even as they blushed.
My assistant once again looked at me with a strange expression before leaving the room.
"Are you okay, sir?" Dawson asked,
"Of course, any problems?"
"You are not acting like your usual self, that's all."
"How so?"
"Normally, you join the arguments but today, you seem off."
"Well, Dawson. Today is a good day and not even your petty arguments can hinder that."
He had the decency to blush at his actions.
My assistant came in with the coffee and served everyone. They sipped their coffees as If I poisoned them.
If I was going to handle them, then I was going to treat them like I would treat my classmates. It was just like standing up to my bullies. They behaved just like kids even with the suit they have on. I just needed the courage to do that.
"This meeting would be postponed till you guys learn to act civil around each other, long enough to give me what I want at least," I say firmly.
Looking at every one of them in the eye to make my point.
"But sir..." I raised a hand, they shut their mouths as I continued.
"Since you have decided to act like kids, then I am going to treat you like one. You will prepare a better presentation and submit it to my desk first thing Monday morning." I said, schooling my expression to be blank.
"I don't care when I ask for a presentation. I require one and the next time this repeats itself, you will find yourselves out of jobs. Please finish your coffee and leave." I finish calmly.
"We are so sorry, sir," Dawson said.
"I believe you. Get to work" I clap my hands as I dismissed them.
They nodded their heads and turned to leave, dropping their cups in the garbage bin right outside the door.
"Except Mr. DuPont," I said finally.
The room froze in anticipation, the man in question barely acknowledged me. I gritted my teeth in anger.
It was just me and him in the room now.
