The light child slept in my arms throughout the night.

Its silver body gave off a gentle glow, illuminating the bedchamber with a warmth that felt strangely familiar. I watched its peaceful face, wondering how something so small could carry so much mystery.

Silas remained beside the window, his attention fixed on the creature. He had barely spoken since we brought it into the palace, and I could tell the questions troubling him were the same ones I carried.
