Selene's POV

The Maker's words hung over the courtyard.

It is time for the child to become what it was created to be.

I tightened my arms around the little creature. Its silver body was warm against my chest, and its white eyes searched my face as though it understood my fear.

"What does that mean?" I asked.

The Maker approached slowly. Behind her, the Star Wolf watched in silence.

"The child must change," the Maker explained. "It has learned what I could never teach my other creations. Now it must discover the purpose for which it was brought into existence."
