The attack came at dawn, but the silence that came before it was what frightened me most.

I stood on the battlements, watching the first light spread across the capital. The Doom Moon was slowly fading from the sky, leaving behind a pale morning glow that made the city look almost peaceful. Below me, warriors moved along the walls, checking weapons and taking their positions, while the flags of the seven packs moved heavily in the cold wind.
