“Wait, please,” Lola chased after me.

I halted, not bothering to spare her a glance even though I badly wanted to look into her eyes and know why she lied to me continuously. “Why?”

By the time she got to me, her breath burst out in heavy pants. My heart softened, I wanted to turn around and comfort her, but I was too angry to care about her feelings.

I wanted an explanation but I was scared that whatever reasons she had to give would crush me.

“Because you deserve to hear the truth,” her voice trembled in fear.
