I didn't expect the announcement to hit me this hard, but it did. My heart plunged into a turmoil as I imagined him kissing her, being with her all the time.

All the things that I couldn't do for her and with her.

I stretched my hand, cloaking the annoying twinge of disappointment with a smile. “Congratulations, son. She's good for you,” I said, catching a glimpse of her nervousness.

It was obvious that her decision to date him was so that she could forget about me. However, that would be nearly impossible since we lived together.
