I wake up to the sound of my cellphone alarm. I turn my head to the side and notice that David isn't there, but there's a note on the bedside table:
"Note:
Hayden, good luck on your first day of school. I've left your breakfast in the kitchen.
Best regards, your husband."
I head to the bathroom, take a shower, and after about 10 minutes, I step out. I go to my closet to figure out what to wear. I settle on a slightly worn pair of jeans, a gray blouse, and I grab my sneakers. I leave my hair down and apply a bit of makeup. I grab my backpack and sports bag. Before leaving, I make sure I have everything, including my cellphone.
I go downstairs and enter the kitchen. There's a covered plate on the table. I uncover it to find waffles. I sit down to eat, and they taste delicious. Once I'm done, I wash the dishes, leave the house, and head to the garage for my car. As I see my car, I can't believe my eyes. It's beautiful. I can't tell him the make and model since I'm not knowledgeable about cars.
I get in, place all my belongings on the passenger seat, and start driving to leave the house. I realize how absent-minded I am. I arrived tired last night and didn't really notice the house. It's quite large, surrounded by walls and fences. The front yard has ample space for training with the girls. At the front of the property, there's an electric gate. I press a button, and the gates open.
I set off on the journey to the school. Upon arriving, I park, grab my things, and head inside to check my class schedule. When I arrive, I run into my friends.
Hayden: (excitedly) Hey, girls!
Alba: Hi.
Julia: Hey.
Secretary: Here you go, girls.
Both: Thanks.
Hayden: Good morning. I'm here for my schedule.
Secretary: Good morning. Under whose name?
Hayden: Hayden Panettiere.
Secretary: Alright, here it is.
Hayden: Thank you.
We leave the office and head to my locker to grab my books. I take a look at what classes we have today. Darn it, I curse under my breath because I have math first period. I gather my books and head to class. When I arrive at the classroom, I take a seat and notice that the teacher hasn't arrived yet.
Alba: Hey, guys, guess what I found out.
Hayden: (acting casual) What?
Alba: There's a new teacher.
Julia: What subject is he going to teach?
As I'm about to respond, the principal enters, and the room falls silent.
Anna: Good morning, everyone.
All: Good morning, Principal.
Anna: Today, we have a new teacher joining us. He's my son, David Navarro.
Upon hearing my mother-in-law mention my husband's name, I'm in shock. I see him enter, and all the flirty girls in the room whistle.
David: Thank you, Mom.
Anna: With your permission, I'll leave.
David: Good morning, everyone. As you already know, I'm your new math teacher. My name is David Navarro.
Darn it, he's scanning the room, and when his eyes meet mine, it's like he's looking right through me. I quickly avert my gaze.
Girl: Excuse me, professor, I noticed you're wearing a wedding ring.
David: That's correct. Why?
Girl: Are you married?
David: Yes.
Girl 2: And are you happy?
David: Yes, happily married to a beautiful woman who studies at this school, in this very classroom.
Girl: Seriously? That ugly one? – As soon as I hear what she says, I get up from my seat.
Hayden: What's your problem, plastic? You wish you looked like me. I'm natural, unlike you.
Girl: What did you call me, you slut?
Alba: What you heard, plastic.
Hayden: A slut, but not for your corner, bitch.
David: Quiet, girls, please. You're here to study, not fight.
I sit back down, feeling angry and irritated.
Girl 2: In that case, tell that bitch Hayden to calm down.
David: I'm going to ask you to respect my wife. Everyone, listen carefully. Anyone who disrespects my wife will be sent to the principal's office. Got it?
All: Yes, professor!
David: Alright, let's begin the class.
After everything that happened, David starts the class, but honestly, I don't understand a thing he's saying. Just as the bell rings, everyone leaves the classroom, including me. As I'm walking, someone grabs my arm.
David: Did you have your breakfast?
Hayden: Yes, and why didn't you mention you were going to be the teacher?
David: You didn't tell me you were a student here either.
Hayden: You didn't ask. Anyway, I'm going to join my friends.
David: No, you're missing something.
Hayden: Me? I don't think so.
David: Yes, a kiss. – He leans in, and our lips meet in a tender, loving kiss, until we're interrupted.
Iván: Sorry to disturb, but I need my captain.
David: But she's my wife.
Hayden: Remember, I'm at school, and they are my teachers.
Iván: You have a home for that.
Hayden: Let's go. See you later, David.
David: Okay.
I follow Iván, walking until we reach where the others are.
Iván: Let's go, girls. Training time.
Alba: Alright, we'll just change and meet you at the gym.
Iván: Alright.
I head to my classroom to get my bag, then exit and head to the locker room to change. I put on my cheerleading uniform, which consists of a long-sleeved top and a short skirt with shorts underneath, in blue and yellow.
Ready, we head to the gym for practice. When we arrive, many girls are already in the gym waiting.
Iván: Alright, girls, let's get started.
We all take our positions and begin the routine. Suddenly, a girl approaches Iván. He nods at her and calls me over.
Hayden: Yeah, what's up?
Iván: Go to David Navarro's office.
Hayden: Okay, thanks.
I leave the gym and head to David's office. When I arrive, I see his name on the door. I knock and hear him say "come in." I turn the doorknob and enter.
He was looking at his papers, but when he saw me, his eyes widened. I walk in and close the door behind me. I approach his desk, and he doesn't take his eyes off me, his gaze moving up and down.
Hayden: Well, David... Why did you call me here?
David: Are you a cheerleader?
Hayden: Yes, I'm the captain.
David: I don't like you flaunting what's mine, especially with Iván as your coach.
Hayden: Well, I'm sorry. I was in cheerleading before we got married, and besides, it's not revealing anything. Look. - I lift my skirt slightly to show him the shorts and spin around.
David: Fine. I was checking your grades, and you're doing poorly in math. If you continue like this, you might get kicked off the team.
Hayden: Yeah, I know. That's why I asked for your help. I don't understand anything.
David: Alright, your lessons start today at home.
Hayden: Okay, thanks.
David: One more thing, my parents and yours are pressuring me for a grandchild.
Hayden: What did you tell them?
David: That it's a topic I need to discuss with my wife.
Hayden: Alright. If you want, we can talk about it at dinner tonight.
David: Okay. And what's for dinner?
Hayden: It's a surprise. Well, I should go. In three days, we have a performance at school.
David: Okay, that's it. I'll be in the front row, cheering for my wife.
I blush from embarrassment, and he notices. I quickly leave his office, running back to the gym to continue practice. Hours pass, and finally, I leave school and head home.
