I wrenched myself away from Kane and steeled my nerves. "They brought this fight to our doorstep. I’m not playing the damsel in distress while Lyra tears up our borders."

Derek scrambled out and returned with a stack of tactical gear. I turned up my nose at the heavy chest piece, but Kane’s brow furrowed in a deep scowl. "You aren't set foot outside this house without protection, Nadia. Don't go in half-cocked."
