Chapter 2 Cruel

Chapter 2 Cruel

She felt sadness and pain in her chest when she arrived at her rusty apartment. She didn't want to think about what had made her sad, but she loved Craig and needed to understand everything he was saying to avoid being offended. Her niece, who lives with her and was carrying the phone at the time, greeted her and informed her that her mother had called and wanted to speak with her.

"Hello, Mom..." She said when she answered the call of her mother.

"Maria, my daughter. I miss you. How are you doing? How's it going? Is everything alright with you? Your tone of voice is agitated. Your wedding is approaching..." Her mother's worried voice made her cry in silence but she didn't say anything.

"No need to worry about me Mom. There's nothing wrong...How about you mom? What's going on with dad these days? -"

"We're fine here, and your father is doing well since the medicine is working in his body. Hopefully, he'll be fine someday, he can't accept the fact that you are getting married to Craig, you know that he doesn't like Craig for you.... So, when are you planning to come to see us? We missed you. Your sister has now found work, and so your niece is doing well in school?" Her mother questioned her about a variety of topics, but she only responded to one.

"Yes, mom... Priscilla is a good niece, she doesn't give me a headache yet." She joked with her mother, but the truth is that Craig is still on her mind.

"Okay, Maria! I'm gonna call you back soon. Your father needs me now. Bye, take care a lot."

"Okay, mom. You too!" She said happily and hung up the phone.

It hurt her body to sit on the sofa because he had been moving all day and she would have to get up early again the next day. She sent her niece Rosy upstairs to take her ointment, which she had ordered her to do.

"Thank you," She smiles at her niece who is looking at her with a worried face.

"Are you fine, Auntie?" Priscilla asked in an innocent voice and sat with her.

When her niece called her auntie, she winced because it looked like she was already old enough to think that way about herself. In the end, at the age of twenty-eight, she had to get married before the age of thirty to have children just like her sister.

"Priscilla, you're still thirteen...so enjoy being a kid, because being an adult isn't kind or humorous. You can rely on me, I promise you." She responds to Priscilla while tapping her forehead.

So...mom is taking me on a vacation tomorrow. Auntie, do you want to join us? You'll be content..." Her niece said it in a nicer tone to make her feel compelled to go even though she didn't want to.

"Please accept my apologies, Prissy... I would like to, but I can’t.. I have a job, and if I don't work, we won't be able to pay our bills." She explained everything to Priscilla.

Maria smiled because at Priscilla's young age, she understood this immediately and it didn't force other people to understand, and Rosy was different from other materialistic teenagers because she was content with just a simple picnic and delicious food.

"Maybe you need to sleep now and wake up early tomorrow to see your mom...Goodnight Prissy." She kissed her cheek.

"Good night Auntie Maria." She responds and goes to her bedroom.

Maria stood up from her seat on the sofa and went to the bathroom to take a shower. She could smell her sweat all day at work and decided to take a shower to feel refreshed.

When she began showering her body, she felt relieved. Every time she left the house, her slender and delicate body was wrapped so securely that not a single person had seen it, and many men would be drooling if she showed some skin but she's too conservative. She'd be a goddess without her bangs and sunglasses, but she doesn't realise it because the envious people made her believe that she's unattractive since she was still a teenager.

After finishing her shower, she ate her late dinner while recalling the incident with her boyfriend Thomas from earlier. Because of her love for Thomas, she can't inquire who the gorgeous woman is who kissed her fiance's on the cheek, then she headed to her bed to choose her pyjamas. Then she took her phone from the side table to see the messages arrived in her group chat on the messenger, she was surprised. She scrolled down and looked at images of his pals who were blissfully married. She bites her lower lip while thinking of being married to Thomas.

"Oh, our wedding is next week, this is going to be a hectic day!" Then she scrolled her phone again, seeing her friends' dramatic weddings.

"I’m so excited, I'm walking on the aisle and seeing the man who will spend the rest of his life with me..!" She said to herself then lay in her bed to get ready to sleep.

"I want him to marry me...I hope Craig is the one for me... All of my friends are getting married and they are living their dreams…” She murmured and turned her head on her side table to see the picture frame of Craig and her that look happy in that picture.

"Good night my love. I will try to be a better person for you and I'll try to be more presentable next time." She said this while kissing the picture frame of her beloved and put it again on her side table then she turned off the lampshade and fell asleep so deeply that night.

She was startled once more as her loud alarm clock rang at 6:00 a.m. "Oh my goodness...I'm running late!" When she chose to switch off her alarm clock, she was still groping her bed. She then got up and walked to her closet, where she located her day's uniform.

"It's going to be an exhausting day…”

Then she remembered her cruel manager. “Oh that Jewel's face, oh, how I despise it.” She grumbled as she searched for a pair of shoes under her bed.
