Chapter 1 The Beggining

Chapter 1 The Beggining

One spooky night at an old abandoned building near the church takes refuge a wounded couple with their month old baby.

"What are we going to do Devon?" She asked.

"First things first we must keep calm and think of Accadia's safety!" Devon replied worriedly.

Looking at her daughter, who surprisingly sleeps calmly as if she knew she will be safe as long as her parents are with her, completely unaware of the danger lurking within the city.

"Amanda they must not find her or she two will be a goner like us, you know this!, she's their only hope, our only hope" Devon explains to her Wife.

"I know it's just that I don't wanna leave her like this" with her teary eyes Amanda stated while she smoothly touches their child's cheek.

Amanda turned to her daughter "Baby you know we love you so much, I just pray to the man above if he ever hears us, may he give you a chance of normal life apart from what we've taken, it's too late for us but for you darling, it just began."

Amanda cried through every word she said as if this will be her last time to say caring words for Accadia, her beloved daughter. Devon only stared at both of them, while vigilantly listening and observing the surroundings, he gave his beloved wife time to cherish this moment with their child before they left.

"She'll be fine Amanda." Devon secures Amanda.

"Father Bernard will be here soon, preparing her, she'll be safe with him, the Coven will never suspect them to care for her, father Bernard and I talked about this for a long time, we knew this will happen, it's just a matter of time. Unfortunately, time already catches upon us." Devon calmly and casually reveals it to Amanda to convince her that Accadia will be safe.

An hour pass a series of knock rang on the door of the abandoned building they were in, Devon closes his eyes, Carefully and attentively listened, after a moment he opened his eyes and in an instant went to get the door, he moves so fast as if he just teleported from the basement of the building to the main door at ground floor of the abandoned building.

The building looks old, like an old haunted building which the owner already neglects to maintain. With the squeaky stairs and doors, a rusty window frame with a glass window full of dirt makes the building's inner part not visible outside. This houses Devon's family for three days now father Bernard provides them with food and Drinking liquid from the stables every night.

Seeing that it's father Bernard, Devon opened the door and let the Priest come in. With a husky voice due to the lack of nutrients that they need from their food supply, he welcomed the priest.

"Father, get in quick, close your eyes and hold tight on the basket." The priest followed his instructions. He held the priest on the lower back of his waist and back of his neck and lifted the priest from the floor gently and went to the basement in a flash.

At the basement, Devon let the Priest sit on a chair after they arrived as if he knew Father Bernard would not be comfortably standing after that short walk.

"What's the hurry Devon my old friend, I came in a hurry I know you might be starving, but are you that hungry? It felt like a whip just slapped all over my body. Fortunately, I landed on a chair, if not I would have crawled the floor and not be able to get up for an hour."

"My apology Bernard, it's just that tonight is different from the other night, the hunters are close, I can already smell their scent from a mile from here, we... You are not safe here anymore; we must leave to lure them away from here." Devon told Bernard.

Bernard widened his eyes and looked towards Amanda and Accadia's place. Accadia lies at a rickety crib calmly sleeping adored by her Mother who has swollen eyes and cover with almost healed wounds on her right arm, back, and legs. Father Bernard couldn't imagine what they went through just to save their child.

"It's about that time already huh, Do not worry I'll take good care of her, I swear here now and in the name of the Lord I will not let her be harm, I will give her shelter and all the love I can give to provide her a normal life just like what we have agreed before." Father Bernard assures Devon.

"We have to get ready and leave. They will be here in an hour. Bernard, thank you for harbouring and believing in us, raises her well. I trust you, when the time comes you know what to do, do not let her fall in the wrong hands." This was Devon's request to his old friend.

Devon and Bernard's friendship goes a long time ago, when Devon was a master hunter and top predator of the Coven, and Bernard was a newly entered Catholic seminarist at the Metropolis City, a young boy whose heart is pure and simple.

Devon was on a hunt for food this is his routine, he was informed by the Coven that this City was full of theist meal even in the middle of the night, that he will not be disappointed, so that night he went to the city and he spotted his prey and directly jumped and rammed the prey, unfortunately, his prey fought this was a bait to lure him, the city was already alarmed of the series of event where they found a dead body completely drained of their blood and with two holes on their neck, this has been going for a month already.

The city devised a plan to capture the culprit but failed many times already, but that night 7th of October year 1985 they trapped one, Devon tried to escape, he jumped to get to the roof but was followed by a wooden spear lunged in holy water.

He was hit, the spear bore a hole on his tight, luckily his hand reached the gutter of the roof and used it to spring himself up on the roof, and he was running on a limping right foot that's barely touching the roof as he runs because of the wound on his right thigh.

With his last remaining strength, he found a dark alley near a Church with a small and barely seen hut. Swiftly he went in that direction and hid there to lose his chasers.

While taking refuge at the small hut he heard a cry, that cry was familiar a cry of hunger, he scanned thru the hut and at the corner, he saw someone he sniffs and catches a familiar scent, he was surprised, "Turned?" He asked.

This was a term for a human turned into a blood-sucking being like him. He saw a lot of turns on the Coven; they were their slaves and helpers doing all the castle chores and Head Master Lucious errands.

Devon asked in an agonized but commanding voice, "Who are you? What are you doing outside the Covens castle? What is your duty here? Did the coven ask you to find me?"

"Turned? Coven? Duty?" She was stunned and confused by these words.

"I have lived here for quite a while now, what are you talking about? You came here unsolicited and dared to ask a question? I should ask you instead, who are you and what do you want are you here to kill me? What are they coven you're talking about? Is your duty to kill me? I tell you now, leave or I will forget the promise I gave to my brother, I will drink and dry your blood to quench my hunger." She snarled.

He was shocked; he had never imagined that a Turned will talk back to him, a member of the high chamber.

"I guess you're not from the Coven, with the way you talk and your smell, you're just a few weeks old turned; I'm Devon, a member of the High Chamber of Vampire, I was found and wounded by humans during a supposed meal tonight. When are you bitten and by whom, if I may ask?" Devon narrated.

"I'm Amanda, I attacked three weeks ago, but my brother saw and saved me, I didn't feel after that and it went dark after my brother carried me and took me here in this but, when I woke up I felt the excruciating pain in my whole body that can only be quenched by drinking blood. Ever since my brother provided me with animal Blood, I thought you're my brother, his unusually late tonight, I'm starving." Looking at Devon she explained.

After a while, Amanda and Devon were chatting to pass time as Devon already pulled the wooden spear on his thigh and slowly recovered and Amanda forgetting her hunger due to Devon's company, she learned a lot for a short time including how to control her hunger. They were sitting at the side with their backs on the wall seemingly content and happy with that moment, then the Small but door opened and a mid-built man appeared entered, this surprised Devon and Stand in front of Amanda ready to protect her.

The other man was also shocked but was ready to defend himself with a wooden spear in his right hand, he slowly put the basket he held in his left hand and set it aside. He wears black pants and white Polo with pointy black shoes, a seemingly well-mannered appearance.

While Devon wears all-black attire, tight turtle neck t-shirt, and skinny stretchable pants, and pointy boots, he looks like a night thief with well-brushed hair and pale white skin that even in the dark can be seen.

"Who are you? What are you doing here? Where is my sister?" The man authoritatively asked.
