The words stayed in my mind long after Rowan finished speaking.

The Night Mother was not free.

Her body had escaped, but her soul had not.

The Moon Goddess had captured her.

Bound her.

And was using her as a source of power.

I walked toward the window and stared at Lunaria.

The city was quiet below me.

The Doom Moon hung above the rooftops, bathing everything in crimson light.

I pressed my hand against the glass.

I had promised to save her.

Yet she was still trapped.

Because of me.

"I failed her."

"Selene."

I turned.
