Selene’s POV

The light fell from the sky so quickly that for a moment I thought I had imagined it.

It cut across the darkness like a blade, leaving a long silver trail behind it before disappearing beyond the eastern wall. A heartbeat later, the impact shook the palace beneath my feet.

Cries erupted throughout the city.

Wolves shouted from the streets. Guards rushed toward the walls. Horns sounded from the watchtowers as everyone tried to understand what had just happened.

I did not wait for an explanation.
