Selene’s POV

The world seemed to fall silent around me.

I remained on my knees long after the First Shadow disappeared, staring at the place where Dawson had vanished. The battlefield was still littered with broken weapons and wounded warriors, while the surviving shadow wolves had retreated into the forest.

My son's voice still echoed inside my head.

Mother!

I pressed a trembling hand against my chest.

He was alive.

I could feel him through the silver thread connecting us, faint but unmistakable. Yet that connection was growing weaker, as though something was slowly pulling him away from me.

I forced myself to stand.
