I've been standing at Noah's Golf for what feels like an eternity. It's weird that we both finished at the same time, where is he? The parking lot is almost empty and I'm slowly getting fed up with waiting, but I don't really know how to get home.
Of course I could just follow my scent, but as a wolf I smell much more intensely, so it probably wouldn't really help. Finally the door opens and Noah comes out, followed by Jace. The two have an animated conversation, but part with a handshake. Okay.
I fold my arms in front of my chest and try to ignore Jace's looks as Noah runs towards me and I push myself off his hood. "I'm sorry, Liv," he gives me a kiss on the cheek, which I acknowledge with raised eyebrows.
"I hope you have a reason for making me wait so long, and don't say it's because of Jace."
He opens the car and I fall into the seat next to him, "but well, we had class together and he knows that I'm a werewolf."
"What?" I immediately scream and stare at him with my mouth open.
"Yeah, I'm sorry he smelled it, I'm not as good at hiding my smell as you are, I still can't smell you even though I'm sitting next to you in a small space. Besides, perfume doesn't last all day after exercise and everything."
I can't blame him, I'm just glad that he's sitting next to me safe and sound.
"And does he know about me?"
He looks at me in shock, "of course not! I won't betray you until I know if the pack is okay. That means you're still not allowed to transform."
I sulkily sink into the car seat and fold my arms in front of my chest while Noah drives off. My wolf is already longing for freedom, for digging his paws into the ground and taking in the different smells. I actually wanted to explore the landscape here, but that will have to wait. I'm sure I can hold my wolf back a little longer, there's no other way.
We remain silent for the rest of the journey, each of us lost in our own thoughts. Noah lets me out at home, but makes no move to get out himself. "Aren't you coming in?"
"No, um, I still have something to do."
I frown suspiciously, "Aha, with whom?"
He runs his hand through his hair and doesn't even look at me, "with Jace."
Aha, so we've already come to that point. Nothing could ever separate my brother and me, but a werewolf's idiom can make my brother want to keep something from me in five minutes. The initial tingling feeling I get when I think of Jace is now turning into a wave of anger. This guy is really getting on my nerves, and that's already the case.
"Sure, have fun," I say and get out. Sure, he can now run around as a wolf, and me? I'm sitting at home and trying with all my might not to let my true self come to light. It's driving me crazy right now and I could go crazy. Noah's car turns around in the driveway and drives away while I enter our new, huge and empty house.
I can finally sort out my thoughts in peace. While I put pasta in a pot of water and wait for it to cook, my thoughts wander to Jace and the pack. Kyle, Jace, Ethan and Nate are definitely part of it, as are the other boys they hang out with. In total, that would be ten boys at our school, there are probably girls too and tomorrow I have to pay attention to who else is there.
Kyle was really nice all day and I think I've found a real friend in him, a pretty hot friend. I've never really been outgoing and the kind of person who has a whole group of friends on the first day of school, but it seems fate has been kind to me.
The house is wonderful, we're surrounded by nature and I've found three great friends. I immediately took a liking to Megan, as well as Kate, but I don't know what to think about Lola yet.
As if on cue, my cell phone rings in my school bag, it's Megan.
"Hey what's up?"
"I just wanted to ask what you're up to, you're new and I wanted to show you a little bit of our charming city."
I hear her grin and ask myself once again that day how so much energy and joy of life can be contained in one person.
"Sure, I'd love to. I'm just making myself something to eat, but you could come over and eat with me."
"Sure, send me your address and I'll come over."
We say goodbye and I immediately send her the name of our little property. Every house here has its own name, and since most streets only have one house and they are not really busy streets, the house got the name.
Our house and the large meadow with the forest opposite us is called 'Green Villa', a very fitting name I think.
After fifteen minutes the doorbell rings and Megan is at the door.
"Wow! Your house is really...wow!"
I smile embarrassedly, "thank you."
"So after dinner I thought we could go into town or something, whatever you feel like."
She swings herself onto one of the bar stools in front of the counter by the stove and watches me cook.
"Your brother isn't here by any chance, is he?" she asks me with an innocent smile.
"No," I laugh, "not by chance. But the food is ready." I put a full plate of pasta in front of her and we immediately head off to the TV; everything is easier to eat with an episode of Teen Wolf. Yes, I'm a werewolf and I watch Teen Wolf. It's kind of funny how they portray us and have no idea what we really look like, but the actors are hot, which might be the only reason why we girls watch this show.
The thing about the eyes is true though, I've never seen an Alpha before, but I've heard a rumor that his eyes actually change color. Kind of like mine, except his eyes take on a yellow tone and not red like in the series.
Megan next to me sighs, "Werewolves are so hot. I can't understand how Bella could choose the cold and dead Edward instead of the warm werewolf Jacob."
"Yeah, I don't understand either," I quickly stuff another forkful of noodles into my mouth. But really, I haven't met an ugly werewolf yet, but I haven't met many either. It's really awful, I'm a werewolf but I don't really know anything about us. How could I, nobody actually lives in the cities. We need nature, mountains or a forest and not this acrid city smell and the tiny parks. That's why it was so hard for us to live there and well, we had our reasons for moving away.
At some point you can't hold back your wolf if you don't have it under control, this girl was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dad's transfer came at just the right time and I've never felt as comfortable as I do here.
"Liiivvv," Megan waves her hand in my face.
"Äh, yes? Sorry."
"I asked if you wanted to go into town and maybe have a coffee or go to a pub," she continues eating her pasta and looks at me expectantly.
"Yes, of course, with pleasure."
As we are clearing our plates I hear a key in the door and my mum comes in, "Livi, Noah!"
"I'm here, Mum," I call from the kitchen, dragging Megan behind me. My Mum looks a little surprised but also pleased when she sees Megan behind me.
"Nice to meet you Mrs Morgan, I'm Megan," she shakes my mum's hand and of course she grins from ear to ear. "It's great to see that you've already found a friend, and such a nice one at that."
"My friends are always nice," I grin and put on my shoes, Megan does the same.
"Where is your brother?" my mum looks back and forth between the living room and the kitchen.
"He's gone with some boys from school. He didn't say when he'd be back." My mum seems to like the idea that they could be normal boys, how wrong she is.
"Great, you both seem to be settling in well. Well, I have to go too. I just wanted to check quickly that everything was OK, a few emergencies have come in so it's going to be a long day. Don't wait for me."
She gives me a kiss on the cheek and says goodbye to Megan before she disappears again. My mum sometimes has the ability to act like a whirlwind, briefly but with enormous damage.
"We want?"
Megan takes her car keys out of her pocket and opens the door. I follow her with a grin and am already looking forward to exploring the city. A small Audi TT is parked in front of our driveway and I look at her with a raised eyebrow. "And you think my house is wow? I don't even want to know what yours looks like."
Megan waves and goes to the driver's side, "oh our house is so typically Irish, thatched roof and brick is all I'm saying. Oh and the ivy, in which the fat insects always hide in the summer, yes, beautiful."
She shakes a little as if the thought of the ivy gives her goosebumps and I climb in, laughing. After two hours I am equipped with new sandals, a pair of black and dark blue skinny jeans and a beautiful backless top, held in place at the back by a few strips of fabric that create a pattern on my back.
Exhausted, we sit down with our bags in a small café, two steaming cups of coffee in front of us and a piece of cake each. Megan takes the first sip of her coffee and looks at me shyly.
"I'm really glad you're here, I know I have Lola and Kate as friends but it's always a bit difficult in a three-way friendship. Two always get along better and hang out more together and the other is more of a good friend, that's how I've always felt. Suddenly you come into the class and well, I think we're going to be great friends and you're a great friend."
I look at her, touched, "I feel the same way. I've never really had a best friend, but you're a good candidate." We both laugh and somehow the mood between us has changed, it feels deeper and full of trust.
A feeling of great joy comes over me and I can't get the stupid grin off my face. Yes, I have my friends here. This is my home, after moving and searching a lot I have finally found it and my wolf will soon get to know it too.
