I could not control the butterflies in my stomach.

They fluttered so hard it felt like they might burst out of me. Every time I remembered the night before, heat rushed to my face. We were walking toward the prison cells to see my family, and I still felt a little guilty, but I forced the feeling down. Christian had told me to give people what they deserved. They had treated me terribly for years. I could not keep being kind to people who never showed me any kindness in return.
