I walked back toward my chambers, replaying the fear on her face over and over in my head. Then I remembered the knife, how she had held it out shaking like it could actually stop me, and I found myself almost laughing under my breath.
When I opened the door and stepped inside, Jennifer shot up to her feet immediately.
“You don’t have to stand every time I walk into a room,” I said.
