Chapter 8 Divorce Papers

Chapter 8 Divorce Papers

Annabel's POV

I was wheeled into the theatre while I heard Scott screaming for the doctor to let him in. After much talking, they finally shut the door on his face.

"Ahh.." I screamed as I bit on my lower lips to ease the pain. I felt a syringe go into my arm and a few moments later, the pain gradually reduced.

"Don't worry," the female doctor casually rested her hand on my arm, "You'll be fine."

I saw the nurses prepare for a scan. I looked around confused and said to the doctor, "What's wrong with me?"

She smiled softly and answered, "You're two months pregnant dear and you need to pay extra care to your children's health."

I squeezed my face as the nurses lifted my shirt and pressed the scan instrument on my belly.

I asked the doctor, "Children??"

She nodded as she ordered the nurses to pull the monitor closer for me to see. My lips parted as I watched two little fetuses developing inside of me.

"I can't tell you their sex yet but I could guess you'll be having fraternal twins, Mrs Davis." She smiled again but I did not feel happy about the news.

While the doctor and nurses worked together to get rid of the pain I was feeling, all I could think about was the divorce papers.

I just lost a child, I can't believe I'll be having two in a few months time. Should Scott know about this, he would inform his father and Mr Davis might harm my children again.

I do not want to go through what I went through. There, in the warm and dimly lit theatre I decided to finally accept the death of my poor daughter and move on.

I would try my best to forget about Scott and everything we shared. I no longer hope for us to be together after all he has done to me. It is only right that I keep the pregnancy away from him and disappear from New York.

"You're fine now," the Doctor broke into my thoughts, "Please Mrs Davis, desist from any strenuous work. Next time, you might not be so lucky."

I helped myself up against the bed and tendered my gratitude, "Thank you, Doctor but uhm..can I speak with you privately?"

"Of course." she nodded almost immediately and ordered the nurses out of the room, leaving just the both of us.

"Doctor..." I began but my words trailed off as I do not know her name.

"It's Layla."

"Doctor Layla," I continued, "I need a huge favor from you."

I paused and continued, "As you know, I lost my baby girl two months ago. I need the news of my pregnancy to be kept away from the entire Davis family, for personal reasons."

Doctor Layla expressed shock for a few seconds before she took to the space beside me and held my hand.

"Mrs Davis-"

I told her, "Annabel is fine by me,"

"Okay..Annabel..I can only imagine the pain you felt over the loss of your child. I saw the news on the court case and your allegations on your father-in-law."

She continued, "I do not want to meddle in your private affairs however I do not support keeping children away from their father."

I was quick to refute, "Please, I don't want them to know about my pregnancy! I am begging you, Doctor Layla. All I ask is to pretend like I'm not pregnant. Tell them something else, please."

After a moment of silence, Doctor Layla sighed and answered, "Supposing I do this, when do you intend to tell your husband about his children? He lost a child too, remember? I feel like the news of your pregnancy will bring joy and replace his pain."

I shook my head and bluntly said, "We're getting divorced, Doctor. There's no point telling him about these kids. He.. he does not love me anymore. I will keep these children away from him and about the pain he is feeling, it's better he feels it."

I added, "That pain would continue to rest in my heart till I get justice for the death of my child!"

Doctor Layla rose to her feet, "I will do as you wish, Annabel. I hope you realize that revenge is not the best way."

With that she gave me a warm smile and exited the theatre. I was left alone in the room, whose end was dark and not illuminated. It was how my heart felt right now. Dark and devoid of love. It was filled with anger and I intend to channel all this anger in getting my revenge.

I climbed out of bed and steadied my feet towards the restroom. I stared at my reflection from the mirror- my sunken eyes, hollow cheekbones and chapped lips. My brown lustre hair has lost its color over the months.

Tears filled my eyes when I remembered how much Scott loves my lustre brown hair.

"They drive me crazy," he used to say.

'What do you think you're doing, Annabel?' I scolded myself, 'You've to stop thinking about Scott and focus on your revenge!'

I wiped my tears with the back of my palm and walked out of the restroom. My gaze connected with Scott's who was seated on the couch exuding the charm of a powerful, reigning King.

His jet black hair was scattered about his head and I would usually straighten it with my fingers, however not anymore.

His olive eyes still made my heart skip and butterflies jump in my belly but I learned to keep it in the rock bottom of my heart.

What's important is bringing this man and his entire family down!

Scott rose to his feet and stopped a few meters away from me. He was holding the brown envelope.

He began "I'm sorry I pushed you earlier-"

I stretched out my hand, indicating for him to pass the envelope. I ignored the look of surprise in his eyes and took the envelope.

"Pen?" I inquired and he slowly pulled out a pen from his pants trousers and gave them to me.

Our fingers brushed and our gaze connected at once but I destroyed the connection and read through the divorce papers.

A year of marriage together passed through my eyes as the pen rested on the signature area.

"Annabel," I heard him whisper my name so seductively, so charming, so sweet that it made my eyes stung with tears.

However, revenge will taste sweeter.

I signed the divorce papers and the theatre doors pulled open for Mr Davis and his sophisticated wife to step in.
