Chapter 6 Did You Ever Love Me?

Chapter 6 Did You Ever Love Me?

Annabel's POV

I rushed towards the witness box, "No, Scott! Don't you dare lie!"

"Order!" the Judge's voice boomed and the policemen grabbed my arm and restrained me from holding unto Scott.

Tears coursed out of my eyes as I screamed, "Your honor, he's lying!"

"Mr Jaggers!" the Judge roared, "Control your client or I'll have to have her dragged out of the courtroom!"

"Please Annabel," Mr Jaggers came to me but I could not stop weeping. I was so close to victory, so close to avenging my daughter and mother's death.

"Why..why is he doing this to me?" I cried against his chest, "I am fighting for us, why doesn't he understand?"

"Let the proceedings continue," the Judge declared and I turned to Scott standing tall and extremely handsome in the witness box.

He continued, "Since I and my wife lost our child, Your Honor, she has not been well. I tried to get a therapist to see her because I know the pain that comes with losing a child but she refused my help. Her hallucinations has become so wild that she says things that cannot be true."

I saw the Judge nod in support. He said, "I can see it through her razz behavior!"

"Forgive me, Your Honor, that she has wasted the time of everyone over something this illogical. My father has no reason to murder his grandson, say less of his late wife. Being the Governor of this great state all he has done is help his people! He is a good man and I know of no other man worthy to be the Governor!"

The people in the courtroom chanted Mr Davis' name showing support. I looked around the room, seeing people celebrate ignorance and then I stared back at my husband, the last person I expected to betray my trust.

"Mr Davis is hereby," the Judge gave his verdict, "Acquitted of every charges laid against him."

The courtroom rose an uproar. The entire people congratulating the Governor. Vivian could not stop hugging and kissing him. Scott stepped out of the witness box and walked past me to his father.

Mr Davis hugged his son tightly, definitely proud of him. And then Michelle threw herself against him, screaming,

"You did good, hubby!" and then she kissed him and he kissed her too.

I fell to the ground in tears. My husband just handed me my first humiliation and disgrace. Mr Jaggers my lawyer, could only apologize to me but it did nothing to ease the pain in my heart.

I was the only one left in courtroom, still weeping and sobbing on the hard floor. How do I live with this pain in my heart? How do I cope knowing that my mother and daughter's murderer is walking the streets a free man?

I got up on my feet with a fire of determination in my eyes. I won't stop until I get my vengeance. I walked out of the courtroom and was immediately swarmed by reporters.

{Ma'am, where did you find such courage to take the Governor to court?}

{How do you feel losing your daughter, mother and the case at the same time?}

{Is it true what your husband said, that you're losing your mind Mrs Davis?}

{Is the relationship between you and your husband strained ma'am? He was seen in the arms of another woman.}

{Will you be filing for a divorce next?}

On and on they went until the police were able to hold them off. I stepped into what used to be my mother's car and drove back to the mansion, my eyes red and swollen.

I bounced out of the car ready to cause havoc on the Davis family. Scott will have to explain to me why he lied to the judge over the autopsy report. I refused to believe what my mind was telling me- could he be in cohort with his dad?

Upon getting to the gate, the guards refused to let me through.

"We received orders not to let you into the house." they repeated their earlier words which shocked me to the bone.

"Let me in," I tried to push my way further, "Don't you fucking touch me!"

"Please ma'am, we don't want to hurt you. You're no longer allowed in the Davis' mansion."

"And who fucking gave that order?! I have every right to this house because I am Scott's wife!"

The gate dashed open, "I fucking gave the order."

I turned my gaze and found Scott holding a brown envelope in his hand.

"Don't cause any commotion and leave this place!" he said to me, his emerald eyes full of hatred.

"No, I won't leave! I am still your wife and there's no way you will throw me out of the house!"

He smirked and pulled out the envelope, "About that, here is your freedom."

I took the paper from him with a confused look on my face. They were divorce papers. I lifted my gaze with tears in my eyes, "You.. you're divorcing me?"

He slipped both hands into his pocket with no care in the world about how much his words are breaking my heart.

"I warned you not push through with the case Annabel. You have pushed me against my limit now you will suffer the consequences!"

I sobbed, "Did you..did you ever love me?"

I watched him hesitate and then he spoke, "I did, Annabel. I really did until you started to show your true colors. I should have listened from the beginning. They were right about you! You are to blame for the death of our child and all you have been doing is finding a way to blame someone else and put the guilt away!"

My lips fell open, "What?"

"If you'd been extra careful, you never should have fallen off the stairs! Our child would have been here with us today!"

I did not care that tears filled his eyes as he spoke about the death of our child. I raised my hand and hit him hard across the face.

“You will regret this, Scott, I promise you!”

I could have hit him a second time however, I suddenly felt too weak to move a limb. I felt like puking but I held it down, determined to speak my mind.

I gritted my teeth, "How dare you blame me for the death of our child! You are only just scared to accept the fact that your father is a murderer! You are a coward, Scott! You bastard!" I beat at his chest hysterically.

He held both my hands and angrily pushed me to the floor. Sharp pains coursed through my lower abdomen and I let out a piercing scream as my hand instinctively went to my belly.

Scott was beside me in a jiffy.

"I'm.. I'm sorry..Annabel..I..I didn't mean to push you too hard," he turned to the guards, "Get the car, immediately!"

His hands went beneath me as he carried me in his arms into the car. The Davis family flooded out of the mansion upon hearing the noise. I did not care about them, I only cared about the fact that I was in Scott's arms as the driver drove to the hospital.

Although the pain I felt was torture, I was glad it made me experience my husband's touch again after two excruciating months.

Through the drive, he kept whispering apologies to me and some incoherent words. I wanted to bask in his love but I remembered that he gave me divorce papers. If he is still madly in love with me, why did he do that?

I stopped thinking about him and wondered why I felt pains when I fell to the ground. My belly and lower abdomen felt like it was on fire.

This pain...I have felt it before, when Michelle pushed me off the stairs.
