"Well," I said impatiently, "What did you find?"

He handed me a list and said, "I went by the year you had given me and searched the orphanages' files for a Samantha but there is no child who bears that name."

"What?" my eyes scanned the list and true to his words there is no girl child who was brought to the orphanage three years ago.

"How's this possible?" I demanded, "This child I am looking for was adopted from the orphanage three years ago. Are you sure you looked properly?"

"I did, ma'am. I combed through all the orphanages in New York and did my thorough research...
