Selena’s POV

I just stood there in a daze as I stared at Alpha who was also staring at me with shock in his eyes. I was sure it was also hard for him to come to terms with the fact that he was my mate because it still seemed surreal that we were actually meant to be by the moon goddess. For a moment, I was wishing it would be a prank that the moon goddess was just pulling on the two of us but in the history of meeting your mate, such a thing had never happened so I was sure it would never happen now.

I wasn’t special, I was just an omega that was promoted to the post of a beta a day ago so I was sure that the moon goddess didn’t even have the luxury of pulling such a prank on me.

I finally came out of my reverie and my train of thoughts ended as I met Alpha’s gaze and if eyes could form holes in your body, I was meant to have two huge holes on my forehead already due to how hard and intense he was staring at me.

He began to take slow dazed steps towards me and I felt the heat in my body increase the closer he came. My wants were heightened and I didn't know how I was going to be able to tell him that it was safer if he kept a safe distance from me. He was the Alpha! We may have been quite close, but not to the extent of thinking of each other in such a romantic way and trying to come to terms with the fact that we were now mates was definitely going to take a long time.

“You're my mate?” he asked with shock too and I slowly swallowed because I didn’t know how to answer the question. He came closer again and I stepped back to avoid body contact because I didn't know what would happen if we touched and I was scared of finding out what would happen under our present circumstances. I couldn’t risk us getting caught when Raymond was after me.

“How could this happen? Why didn’t I know all these years?” Alpha asked more like he was speaking to himself and I finally decided to speak up to make him understand.

“Today is my birthday and I just clocked my age to find a mate. That’s the reason why you didn’t know all this time because i had no idea about it too” i explained and he looked at me for a while before he sighed and ran his hand through his hair.

Then he looked at his hand while flexing them and I wondered what he was doing as I watched him curiously.

“Do you feel it too selena?” he asked me and I looked up at him to see he was watching me closely. What was he talking about?

I shook my head in response since I didn't understand what he meant and he suddenly took long strides towards me as I quickly backed away until my back hit the tree bark and there was nowhere for me to go again.

He placed his hand on the tree right above my head and when I looked up at him, I could feel the heat getting unbearable inside me.

“Do you feel the heat selena?” He asked again and that was when I understood what he meant as I bent my head in realization then it hit me again and I looked back up at him with shock all over my face. He could feel it too? He could feel the heat coursing through his body? Did that mean he also felt sensual wants for me? Just the thought of that sent a chill through my body and I felt goosebumps on my arms. The Alpha wanted me? How was that even possible?

Remembering that he asked me a question, I licked my lips before answering and I heard him hiss.

“I mean, I can feel it too. I felt it ever since you were close” I replied and I heard him growl in his chest before he looked at me and sighed. His eyes were turning dark and there were tiny signs of sweat breaking out on his forehead. I began to get worried seeing him in that condition and I was about to touch him to feel his temperature but he held my hand immediately.

“I’m trying my hardest here to not follow what my body wants so don’t touch me. It’s for your safety” he warned and I gulped with wide eyes before I slowly held my hand to myself while trying to recover from the shock of what he just said to me.

We just stood there in silence for a while; he was breathing hard and I was sure it was because of the heat we were both feeling while I on the other hand was also struggling to keep my wants under control while trying to bear with how hot my body was getting even though the wind blew hard around us.

“We should sit” Alpha said to me before he left my side to find a spot to sit. Then I remembered the reason why I was even there in the first place. Raymond was definitely going to be coming after me and I had to let him know before he would catch up to us.

I quickly caught him by the arm before I began to speak and I could feel him stiffen immediately. The heat in my body began to get worse and I quickly let him go as I realized that I shouldn't have touched him. Now my wants had increased too and i knew that if we touched again, it would be uncontrollable.

“What did I tell you about us avoiding body contact?” he almost yelled and I bowed my head to apologize. It still felt we only had an Alpha, beta relationship because it was still taking a while to get used to the fact that he was now my mate, my alpha.

“I have something urgent to tell you so i wasn’t thinking when i held you” i explained and he told me to speak.

“I didn’t think you would receive the letter Alpha, I'm glad you're safe though” I told him and he nodded.

“It was a smart move to send that letter because I thought Raymond would send the extra guards. I didn't know he was planning to ambush me. Thank you selena” he replied and I smiled, feeling proud that he thanked me for saving him.

“So why are you here? Did something else happen?” He asked me and I explained it all to him. How raymond betrayed him and the pack by giving the korr scroll to a foreigner from another pack, how he announced me to be mentally unstable to the executives when i tried to expose him and how he locked me up before trying to convince me to join him so we would rule the new pack he would create together.

When I was done speaking, I looked at Alpha and in all the years of being his subordinate, I had never seen so much rage and disappointment in his eyes. I watched as he folded his fists and his veins popped in his arms while his jaw ticked before he dragged in a long breath and looked at me when he had calmed down.

“What about the executives? They didn't do anything?” he asked me and i shook my head.

“You weren’t around and the only person they would believe after you is raymond. They never wanted me as your beta in the first place” i said and he stood up abruptly before he stormed towards the tree and he punched hard while he cursed in anger.

“Those dumbass men, i should have expected it that they would be too dumb to suspect anything in the first place” he said and when he had hit the three to his satisfaction, he stopped while he panted to catch his breath and put his temper in place.

Time was going and I knew that Raymond would be close by now. We had to get out of there before it would be too late which meant I had to try and make Alpha lose a bit of his anger. I had to do something quickly before it would be too late for us to find a place to hide.

I quickly walked to him and I was cautious not to touch him this time so he wouldn’t get pissed at me too because this wasn’t a time to be getting distracted by our sensual wants, we had to think of a way out of this quickly and he had to know we weren’t safe.

“Raymond would be here at any time Alpha, we have to leave here quickly” I told him and he faced me.

“I have my guards stationed at my hideout so we will return there and stay there for the night. We would find our way back to the pack once it’s morning. The army would only listen to me as long as I'm not dead” he told me and I felt relieved instantly.

The alpha would keep me safe and Raymond would lose at the end of this whole chaos.
