Lily's Point of view

Marcus's name shone brightly on my face as the light from my phone display reflected off it. My stomach twisted into knots as my thumb hovered over the answer key.

Not now.

I took a deep breath and firmly declined the call. I had business to attend to tonight.

Aiden's small voice cut through the tight hush as he stirred in the backseat. "Where are we going, Mommy?"

I shot a glance back at Lucas in the rearview mirror and kept my voice to a whisper. "We're meeting someone, he will help us."

Aiden nodded and blinked somnolently, as if my answer was enough for him....
