The good for nothing brother

The good for nothing brother

As the night turned cold and darker, the heavy rumbles of the thunderstorm echoed in the silent corridors of the hospital, where Emory and Jadiel sat waiting with a tired look on their faces.

“Jadiel, you are not going to prison for hitting someone who came running through the wrong side,” Emory tried to convince his young chauffeur for the hundredth time.

Even though the doctor has informed that the patient is out of danger, Jadiel was still anxious about the woman who was in the ER.

The fear of becoming an offender and ruining his life in prison has been eating him alive from the moment he saw the woman lying in the blood pool.

After his father's death, he became a chauffeur at a young age to feed his family. Being the eldest son, the entire responsibility of his younger siblings and sick mother lies on his shoulders.

What happens to them when he goes to prison? Who will take care of them?

“You are worrying too much, Jadi,” Emory tried to console him with comforting words. “Do you think I will let you go to prison for a crime that you haven’t committed? I know you are innocent in this case. So please don’t wreck your brain thinking about the police case and try to get some sleep,” He advised Jadiel with a pair of doting eyes. As someone who saw him growing up, Emory knew what exactly worried the young boy.

When Jadiel’s father died, Emory made sure to help his chauffeur's family by providing whatever they required. However, after completing his high school diploma, Jadiel came to Wan mansion and shared his willingness to work for the family rather than going for higher studies. Though everyone discouraged Jadiel, he remained adamant about his decision, leaving Emory with no other option but to give him a job.

As the duo immersed in the conversation, Everett who went to settle the bills returned to the waiting area,

“Dad, I have talked to the hospital authorities and it seems like they have already reported the accident case to the police department. We can leave after submitting the contact details at the office,”

Everett reported casually as he looked at his father for an answer.

“No. It’s too late to travel in this weather, let’s wait till the dawn,” Emory suggested as he stretched his arms and invited his son to take a seat,

“What? Are you going to sit here for the entire night?” Everett snapped back in incredulity, he couldn’t fathom out the reason why his father wanted to spend the night sitting on a hospital chair, waiting for some random girl to wake up.

“Boss, you don’t have to do that, I will…I will stay here,” Jadiel proposed in a surprised voice only to get roasted by an infuriated Everett,

“If you are going to stay here, then who is going to drive us home?”

“Let’s take a room somewhere near and come back in the morning,'' Emory tried to calm the situation by making a feasible suggestion and glanced at his son, “Anyway your mom is not home. So we don’t have to rush back."

“Then you two go and check in some hotel, I will stay here,” Everett made his point and took a seat as if he was not budging away from his decision.

Hearing his declaration, Jadiel exchanged glances with his boss, unable to believe what he just heard,

“First brother, you don’t have to stay here, I will…I will wait here until she wakes up,” He repeated in fear of the possible outcomes of spending time with the tyrant who loves to torture others.

“Will you pay the bills if there is an emergency?" Everett haughtily asked a practical question which shut Jadiel, without giving any chance to refute, “So listen to me and accompany dad.”

For a moment, Jadiel went speechless when he realized the truth behind Everett’s words, but he didn’t hesitate to offer his service.

"I know I won't be able to pay the bills at the moment, but let me take responsibility for my mistake," He stated in a low but unflinching tone.

Even if he goes with Emory, he won’t be able to sleep properly due to his muddled brain.

After lots of arguments and contemplation, Everett sent his father to the hotel alone and stayed at the hospital, wearing his usual icy demeanor as if he was putting a guard against Jadiel.

On the other hand, when Jadiel figured out that his first brother was avoiding him, he picked up his cellphone and opened his social media account to kill time.

If Everett doesn’t want to talk to him, then he will also refrain from initiating a conversation.

Since he doesn’t have any other activities to keep him awake, Jadiel scrolled through his social media account.

"Oh my god!!!!"

All of sudden, Jadiel forgot the fact that he is in a hospital and almost screamed in surprise. His crescent eyes widened as he looked into the bright phone screen.

"Shush," Everett hissed in annoyance and tried to shut the excited boy from making noise.

Jadiel quickly regained his bearings as if he heard a hiss of snake and muffled his shocked screams with the back of his palm.

After a few seconds his excitement died off and with a confused face, he opened the messenger app to type a message.

To his surprise, his phone rang with the notification of a reply without any delay, bringing back a hearty smile on his tired face,

As Jadiel busied himself with the chat, Everett, who got curious by the blush on his face, peeked into the boy’s phone screen.

However, from the spot where he sat, it was nearly impossible for him to check out the reason for Jadiel’s delight.

Everett slowly tilted his body in the direction of Jadiel and took a glance at the lit phone screen. However right at the moment, Jadiel abruptly raised his gaze and met with a pair of curious hawk-like eyes,

Though he was caught red-handed, Everett immediately hid his fluster and maintained a master poker face as if nothing had happened.

“Hmm?" His thick eyebrows perched up when he interrogated the boy who was gawping at him like an idiot.

"Nothing," Jadiel twitched his mouth in denial and buried his eyes onto the bright screen. "Ting! Ting! Ting"

Jadiel's mobile rang continuously as if it was like the alarm of a fire engine.

"Aiiii Shhh, who the hell is messaging in the middle of the night?" Everett roared in frustration as well as in curiosity.

Jadiel lifted his arm like a broken robot and showed the phone screen which is now filled with a devilishly handsome face along with the woman who was crowned as 'the Nation’s beauty'

"It's second brother," He innocently stated and went ahead explaining the reason for his exhilaration.

"You know, Valerie Langston, the actress, a few minutes ago, she posted a picture with second brother and immediately deleted it."

"So what?" Everett’s handsome face turned black like the bottom of a burnt pot as his eyes narrowed in disinterest,

"Recently she has been updating so many relationship-related posts and since she just posted the picture with second brother….I think… I thought...they are-" Jadiel rendered in broken words as his face burned up in shyness.

"In a relationship?" Everett spat out the word in utter disgust.

"Hmmm," Jadiel fervently wobbled his head and agreed, "But second brother said that she is just a friend."

"Friend?" Everett scoffed and wrapped his arms over his chest while his stunning face decorated with a smug, “Don't make me laugh. The only friends he has are friends with benefits."

He stood up from the seat, unable to hide the waves of contempt surging inside him,

"He is nothing but a player," Everett rumbled and walked away from the waiting area in long strides, leaving a puzzled Jadiel behind.

Ever since he became close to the Silvius family Jadiel knew that there was some bad blood between the sons in the house. But he never imagined that Everett’s hatred towards his own brother was so intense.

When Everett returned after taking a stroll to calm his troubled self, he saw a sleepy Jadiel in the chair.

However, at that instant, the door of the ER opened and one of the duty nurses walked out, alerting Everett who was waiting for a piece of positive news regarding the woman who is in the ER.

"No Mister, she is not awake yet," The nurse informed the man who approached her.

"But if you want to see her, you can go ahead...but only after disinfecting yourself," "No... it's alright, I was just," Everett tried to refuse.

"Her wounds were covered with mud and blood. We had to work a lot to clean the wounds to avoid any kind of infection. So please do understand and follow the sanitizing measures, Ah, she is in bed number seven.” The nurse reminded him as she opened the door,

After a momentary daze, Everett walked into the ER and as the nurse already mentioned he disinfected himself. He even wore the temporary polythene suit before entering cubicle number seven.

As he stepped into the cubicle where the feeble rumbles of machines echoed, he abruptly stopped his steps as if someone had tied his legs.

After opening the glass door, the first thing he saw was the woman who was lying on the bed with an IV drip attached to her wrists.

He slowly fixed his dark eyes on the gorgeous face that appeared pale like a blank paper.

Even though her face lacked the healthy crimson hue, he couldn't deny the fact that she was indeed the prettiest woman he has ever seen.

If Valerie Langston is considered as the nation's beauty... The woman who laid unconscious before him, could keep a thousand Valerie Langstons as her maids,

Her unparalleled beauty was beyond any of the mere mortals of this lowly earth.

As he stared at her sleeping face, Everett remembered the portraits of beautiful celestial beings that he saw in art galleries.

Such a pure and serene beauty,

However, right at that moment, a horrifying thought flashed in his mind, out of nowhere.

Is there any law that prohibits an angel from falling for a devil? Or worse, what if the devil throws himself at a beauty like her?

“Nope, that's not going to happen." He mumbled and tried to erase the devil’s face that popped up in his mind,

“I will never allow him to get close to this woman.” Everett muttered and decided to hide the peerless beauty from the man who owns the nickname the 'Devil'

Edgar Silvius, his good for nothing brother.
