The meeting with Mark Harris and his lawyers was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, especially when they brought up the bedroom requirements in this contractual marriage. However, seeing my little girl again after abandoning her at birth made me realize that if I wanted her back in my life, I had to accept every condition this man presented to me.
"What if I don't want to have relations with Mr. Harris? What will happen then?" I asked.
"By signing this contract, you exempt my client from all responsibility if you feel violated or abused by Mr. Harris. He will simply express his need to have sex with his wife, and you will be obligated not to resist your husband," the lawyer said.
I looked at Mark Harris, noticing how relaxed he was in his large chair, as if everything his lawyer was saying was the most natural thing in the world.
"What do you say, Ms. Lopez? Do you accept all the conditions my client has laid out in this contract?" asked the white-haired lawyer.
"What about my daughter? How do I know Mr. Harris won't transmit some viral disease to me when he wants to have relations? According to the tabloids, your client has had numerous partners and lovers," I responded.
"Both you and my client will undergo a medical examination to ensure you are both healthy. As for your daughter, we will conduct a test to confirm that you are indeed the biological mother of little Cintia," he replied.
"I have to tell you, Mr. Harris, that I don't have any diseases you need to worry about. The firm conducts regular medical exams," I said.
"We know, Ms. Lopez, but my client might, and I emphasize might, want to expand the family, and you need to be willing and healthy to give him that baby. Understand me," the lawyer said.
"It's not a maybe, Sofia. I want a healthy wife to give me an heir, and once the blood test confirms that you are my daughter's mother, I won't hesitate to take you as often as I please to give me a son," Mark Harris said. I looked at him with panic, thinking that carrying another child would end my career.
"Harris, what you want is a doll to obey you and be at your disposal twenty-four hours a day, and you have mistaken me for one. I'd rather you find a whore because neither my body nor I intend to prostitute ourselves, no matter how much money you have," I responded, very angry.
"Not even for a girl you gave up for adoption at birth? I don't judge you, Sofia, nor am I one to do so. I'm not a man with millions in the bank infatuated with a woman who abandoned her newborn daughter and wants to have you in my bed because of it. I just want you to be a mother to my daughter. I chose you after considering many women better than you, with spectacular bodies willing to do anything I asked. But I preferred to investigate you because you are my daughter's mother, and no one could raise her better than her own mother. Is that clear, or are you still being defiant?" Harris said, making me even angrier.
Mark Harris stood up from his large chair, intertwined his fingers on the table, and looked at me very seriously.
"I suppose I've finally made you quiet. I'm not a pervert, Sofia. I don't desire a woman to have sex with her as often as I want. Believe me, I wouldn't lack women for that. I just want to marry a good woman so my daughter has a good mother. I don't think I'm asking for much, right?" Harris said.
"I think if you had handled things differently, none of this would be necessary. But no, you show up at my firm with photos of my fiancé cheating on me, threaten to expose my past to the tabloids, and tell me I won't see my family if I marry you. You want me to continue?" I responded, seeing Harris laugh out loud.
"Sofia, I'm not a man who courts women. I did that once, and although it may not matter to you, that woman left me at the altar," he said.
"I'm not surprised. Any self-respecting woman wouldn't want to be with you," I replied, seeing Harris stop laughing and look at me with eyes full of anger and frustration.
"Look, Sofia, let me tell you that you have a lot of nerve. A woman who gave up her newborn and is proud of where she has gotten because of her high morals is highly questionable, dear," he said very seriously.
"Have you decided yet, Ms. Lopez? If you agree, my client will give you two million dollars for your personal expenses until the ceremony. After that, as Mrs. Mark Harris, you will have anything you desire, as my client is very generous with you," the lawyer said, making me laugh.
"So what should I do now?" I asked, overwhelmed, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Now, Sofia, we will both sign the document. You will come to my house in my car, and tomorrow we will go to the clinic for the DNA test and a gynecological exam to ensure you can get pregnant again and that neither of us has any sexually transmitted diseases," Mark Harris said, making my cheeks blush with embarrassment at his words.
