Olivia glanced at Lucien and then her father. The stoutly built man with fierce looks made her shiver.
She swallowed deeply trying to put herself together. She was so scared of saying a word in the presence of Lucien, so she dashed out of the sitting room to her own room.
Mr Derrick glanced at Lucien, his facial expression wasn't bright at all. Deep anger was revealed on his face.
"Please be patient, I'll talk to her." He uttered and left the room to meet Olivia crying bitterly in her room.
He sat beside her on the bed tapping her back. "Olivia, you need to understand what's going on please." He stated trying to pull back the tears that will rush down soon.
She took a look at her father for a few seconds. "Dad, what do you expect me to understand about this? Huh! That you're selling me off to a cold hearted young man to be his servant." She adjusted and sniffed. "Now tell me dad, did I ever tell you that I want to be a servant? Have I for once told you that I'm not okay with the little we have here? Do you even know the man you are pushing me to stay with?"
"Olivia you aren't getting what I meant. I owe this young man ten million dollars and I haven't paid a dime because of the things I have to do with money." He explained.
She got on her feet stepping aside from the bed. Her eyes narrowed while staring at her father.
He just said something that stuck in her head, she wasn't deaf.
"Dad, you were lent ten million dollars for what? How would you take such an amount of money for goodness sake?" She spluttered.
Mr Derrick heaved a big sigh, this has been a secret he has been hiding from his family all these years… and now it's going to be unveiled.
How will he hide it from her? It's impossible, because Olivia wants to know the reason he was lended such an amount of money.
"Olivia…" he called out. She sighed, not giving a response.
"I'm so sorry for keeping this message away from you. I never knew a time like this would come and I never wished for it. But I have no other option… .
"Just give me the answer to my question dad.." she paused his sentence.
He nodded, shedding tears. "I lost my work a year and six months ago, but I hid it from you… because I don't want you to feel bad. Your mother is the only one who knows about it and we decided to keep it a secret from you…"
"Things became tough for us from that moment since I couldn't get another job and your mom's condition doesn't need stress. Since things were getting worse everyday and the government had warned us to pay our house rent… I decided to borrow the money, but this building so we won't be disturbed by house rent again and then I started that little business with the remaining money."
She nodded. "Uh-huh! You're supposed to raise a dime all this while. Isn't it? "
Derrick nodded. "Yes, I raised some cash at first… but my shop was broken and all the money in it was stolen. I had to start my life again with the little in my account. Honestly, your mum has been the one putting food on the table and providing other things… . now she's hospitalized.."
Olivia wished the ground would open and have her in. She isn't aware that her mother is hospitalized, her father had told her that she went to visit her parents for five days now.
All this has been going on in her family, yet she isn't aware. Why should they take such a decision? She just hopes it isn't because there's no opportunity for her to go through college again.
"My mum is hospitalized and you didn't tell me. You were lended such an amount of money that can't be paid for years to come and you didn't let me know… now you want to sell me off because of the debts." She twisted her face revealing agony.
Mr Derrick got on his feet, he didn't know how to console Olivia because she was already mad at him.
"I'm so sorry daughter… I didn't want to tell you so you won't feel bad. And besides, I had already gathered some money to go give him before your mother fell sick and I had to pay in the money so that her treatments will begin." Derrick wiped his face.
Olivia took a deep breath getting her ass on the sofa. "I'm not leaving with him. We will sell this home and pay the debt."
"It won't do. And we will become wanderers." He sniffed running his fingers in her long dark hair. "He wants to jail me if I don't pay him today, please Olivia… you'll be back once I pay him."
"When dad? Tell me, when will the money be paid?" She chiseled her face.
He was about to say a word when he heard his name called out in a hoarse tone.
"He's calling you.." Olivia uttered.
Mr Derrick left the room to meet Lucien still on his feet in the sitting room.
"Why not get seated, Lucien?" He referred to him.
He stretched his lips into a wicked smile. "Seems like we're playing games here. Where is your daughter Mr Derrick?" His voice was so cold and inhuman.
It sent shivers down his spine that he wondered what his daughter would pass through in his hands.
"He's still… . Lucien… ummm… he's inside." He stammered.
"Go in there and get that young girl out, break the door if it's locked." Lucien ordered one for his men.
The young man left the room to get the door locked. He knocked several times but Olivia didn't say a word.
He kicked the door so hard and it opened once.
Olivia got on her feet, she wondered the sort of human he is that the door got open on his first hit.
"Come here with me, I don't want to hurt you." He stated to her hearing.
Olivia shook her head. "I'm sorry, but I'm not leaving with you. Tell him that you didn't find me." She spoke out of fear.
The dude looked scarier than his boss. He had a broad chest and muscles and he believed she wouldn't bear the pains of feeling his grip on his arm.
He looked like a Devil himself, no single smile on his face too. She believed the huge dude was more than six inches tall.
"Are you coming with me peacefully or we should take another alternative?" His deep voice echoed in her hearing.
She shook her head and nodded at the same time out of fear. "No… I mean, I'll go with you." Fear gripped her.
He stood at a side and ordered her to leave first, which she did. Her heart beat could be heard… because it was pounding so heavily.
She stepped into the sitting room to see the young man staring at her completely without a blink.
Her eyes caught her father whom she was sure had been enveloped with fear. His face was dripping water like one who just took his bath.
"Young lady…" Lucien's voice hit her ears. She felt goose pimples on her skin.
She lifted her face to take a good look at the mighty man after her.
"I'll jail your father right here in your presence if you decline leaving with me." Lucien announced.
Now, she could believe that her father wasn't telling lies. The man was absolutely telling her the truth.
"Why not give us some time so we can raise the money? Please, I beg of you." She pleaded to a ruthless man.
Lucien pulled his lips into a smile. But she was sure the smile wasn't from his deep heart.
"For more than a year now your father hasn't paid a dime out of the ten million dollars I lended him. If you were in my shoes would you be happy? Now tell me when I'm gonna see a dollar…" he snapped his mouth and bent his head.
Olivia was shut of words, she wouldn't want to leave with him… but then, he had exercised patience for his father.
"Are you leaving now or not? I know you won't feel glad seeing your father handcuffed into jail." He uttered.
She took a deep breath, shaking her head. "I'm still not leaving with you." She knows how her life will turn into hell if she ever leaves with him. Everyone is aware that he's heartless mostly towards females.
"Grab her to the car now." He ordered the same dude that brought her out.
Before she could say a word, the dude had gripped her arm that looked tiny in his palm taking her to the car.
Mr Derrick got on his knees pleading amidst tears, but Lucien wasn't seeing a liquid drop on his cheek.
He dashed out of the building without taking a glance backwards.
