Chapter 3

Chapter 3

When Emma saw the hand badge, tears flowed down her face. She knew that was Dad's personal belongings. A white jade was carved into the hand badge, warm to the touch, and she was too familiar with that feeling. When this hand badge was handed to her, she believed the words of this self-proclaimed Uncle Hall because David's hand badge had never appeared in other people's hands. Even if she found it funny and wanted to play with it for a while longer, she was stopped by her father and asked to give it back.

"Uncle Hall, it's really Daddy's belonging," she sobbed.

"Yes, girl, come back with me," Frank looked at her lovingly.

"What happened to my dad?" Emma looked up and asked Frank.

"I don't know!" Frank's face froze and he spoke evasively.

As smart as Emma, she already understood that he wouldn't tell herself the truth. Anyway, while the green hills last, there will be wood burn. She secretly swore that she would save her dad even if he had committed a big crime.

The car that Emma sat in was Frank's car, a military Land Rover. Emma knew that he was a military man, but did not know that Dad also had friends in the military, which she had never expected because Dad was a mob lord. Mom died early. Dad treated her like a treasure, and could not let her suffer. Dad never tell her things about his business, but she vaguely knew that Dad’s work was dangerous. She has long advised her father to wash his hands of the business, but he always said she was overly concerned. She had expected that sooner or later there would be that day, but did not know that it would come so quickly.

Frank sat next to her and ordered the driver to take her to the villa to pack her things first.

"Uncle Hall?" Emma pondered for half a day before speaking.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Frank looked at her lovingly.

"I want to stay at home by myself for one night. Do you think it's okay?" Emma said shyly.

"Okay!" Frank pondered for half a day before answering.

"But, the villa will be repossessed by the bank tomorrow, by then, you will be homeless. So, you try to pack as much as you could tonight, and I will send someone to pick you up tomorrow, okay?" Frank asked her.

"Okay!" Emma nodded gratefully. She secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Dad's accident would never be without warning, and he would definitely leave her some warning. Last night, everything was too chaotic, and she was also taken away. She pondered whether Dad left her anything or not.

Emma got out of the car, said goodbye politely to Frank, and saw the military Land Rover disappear in front of her eyes before she hurried back inside the villa.

She pushed the door and saw that the house was in a mess. Some valuable things were not lost, and the only thing that was rummaged the most was actually Dad's study. Books were thrown all over the floor, and even the only photo she took with her mom and dad was thrown to the ground. She went over, picked it up. When seeing her loving and beautiful mom on the photo, she could not control her tears.

"Mom!" She choked out a sob, her throat clogged with tears.

After crying for a long time, she carefully put the photo into her school bag and wiped the tears at the corner of her eyes. She began to look for whether her father had left something for her. But she was disappointed. In addition to some of the books that her father usually read, there was the company's normal business transactions, and even the unpaid salary schedule to the staff, for which Luis was responsible. Remembering Brother Luis, she hurriedly took out her cell phone to call Luis but the phone had been turned off. Her heart sank. Was her Brother Luis was also caught up with Dad?
