Mom sounded as commanding and cold as usual. I wondered what they wanted to see Brian for.

“Dad, please sit down,” I urged.

They helped him to the sofa and sat. I didn't understand why they had to bring my father, who was still struggling to stand.

“Why did you all have to come here? You are making this look like some family meeting?” I forced a laugh.
