I stare at Aston, my brain was trying to debunk his theory anyway it could. But all the scenarios just made perfect sense, they must have known we were coming. When we arrived, Myles told me he had informed all his pack members that we were coming. How much of a coincidence would it be that less than an hour after we arrive, we find a young girl in a trap that didn’t go off?
All the other guys had also stopped what they were doing, none of us wanted to believe it. Hunters are the worst kind of people, why would somebody openly work with them knowing what’s going to happen to somebody just like them?!
“I hate to agree with Aston, especially, after that fight we had. But I can’t come up with another option to explain that away” Chase says from across the room, I was thinking the exact same thing. “But what are you going to do, we have no idea who this spy could be?” He asks looking over at me as I begin to pace up and down the room, I do this when I’m thinking about something rather intensely.
“We have to be careful with the way in which we deal with this, we don’t need those hunters catching on to the fact we know they have a spy” I say taking a look out of the window as I spoke, just like this pack always seems to be, empty. “Just because we’ve found this out, doesn’t mean that we take a back seat on the other items that need to get done. As it’s the guards first night guarding under nightfall, Rich thought it would be best if he and Jeff also do perimeters of the pack grounds” I say walking over to grab my coat, I didn’t want to seem suspicious walking around now I know there’s a spy lurking in the shadows.
“I’m going to head out and talk with the Alpha, this will probably be one of the only times we’ll talk when we’re fully alone. While I’m away, I need the rest of you guys who aren’t out to carry on with your work, I want to see your plans when I get back” I say opening up the door and walking out, it was now getting dark so I didn’t want to wake the Alpha up if I leave it to late.
I hear a series of yes bosses, before I fully leave the house. Rich and Jeff behind me but soon walk into the trees, at least I know the pack will be protected tonight. I walk down the dark path, when Myles was taking me to where my team will be staying. We passed a serious of houses, he pointed at the one he lives in so I knew where to go.
It takes me a couple of minutes, but I soon arrive at the gate of his residence. I walk straight through the gate and up to the door, while taking a look around I knock twice on the door. I’ve done many dangerous missions in the cover of night, but that didn’t mean that I felt completely safe. I was looking behind me out at the outline of the trees, when I hear the door open. I turn my head where Myles stood, he looked quite confused looking back at me.
“Alaia, what can I do for you?” He asks sounding quite shocked that I was stood in front of him, honestly, I didn’t know I would be standing here either until a few minutes ago.
“I’m sorry, I know it’s late but you and I need to talk” I say taking another look behind me as I went, but once again I didn’t see anyone behind me.
“Yeah of course, come in” he smiles moving aside so I could walk in, I send him a smile before making my way into his very elegant home.
Just from the entrance, you can tell how much money this house cost to do up. He closes the front door behind me before telling me to follow him, with a smile I walk behind him just taking a look around. He had a huge chandelier hanging in his entrance near the stairs, the stairs themselves were a polished dark wood colour. We take a right where he leads me into what looks like a living room, a rather comfortable sofa stood near a gigantic tv. I hardly ever watch tv, I would much rather get on with work.
“This has to be nicest house I’ve ever seen” I say looking around amazed, this wasn’t really getting on with work but I couldn’t help looking around.
“Thanks, my mother designed it all before she died.” He tells me looking around with a little smile, I turn to look at him knowing exactly what he was going through.
“Anyway, the reason I’m calling so late is because my team and I have made a horrifying discovery” I tell him switching the conversation, I can’t get into deep feelings about mothers right now. “We’re more than sure that you have spy in your pack” I say placing my hands behind my back as I spoke, Myles looks taken back at first looking to the side to try and take it all in.
“Who do you believe they work for?” He asks looking up at me once again, his face held so many different emotions as he went, confusion, worry, hurt and anger.
“We believe whoever this person is, are helping the hunters” I tell him where his face changes to anger, he walks around with his hands on his hips before he picks up a glass vase and throws it against the wall.
I don’t even flinch at the impact, it’s part of our training to expect things like this to happen. I completely understood why he was reacting the way he was, someone that he sees daily and trusts, could be working with people who harm his pack members. He stops in his tracks turning to look at me, where we lock eyes as like we did back when I first arrive here. But this time, his eyes seemed darker as they did. After a few seconds, they were soon back to their original green colour.
“I’m sorry I reacted in that way” he says with a sigh, this does snap me out of whatever trance I was in where I look away from his eyes.
“You don’t have to apologise, I completely understand why you’re reacting the way you are” I smile as he walks from all the smashed glass and over to me, where that same magnetic pull makes an appearance.
“Have you got any idea who this spy could be?” He asks where I move a little so he could sit down, he looks kind of upset for a second before he does take his seat on the sofa in front of me.
“At this time we don’t, that’s why I’ve came to see you alone. Is there anyone you can think of?” I ask knowing how difficult that question would be to answer, it’s like if someone asked me the same question about the guys, I wouldn’t know how to answer it either!
He looks down trying to rack his brain anyway that he could, I stand there patiently not wanting him to feel rushed. His face soon changes where he looks up at me, has he got someone?
“I can think of a few people that could be, but I can’t be certain” he says which was better than what we knew a few minutes ago, at least in his mind his got a list of some sort. “I’ll go get a something to write them on just in case” he tells me before getting up and leaving the room, where I stand there alone.
My eyes begin to wonder around the room as I didn’t have anything else to do, where a picture of a young version of Myles stood. He was in the middle of a man and woman, who I’m guessing were his parents. Before I could look any further, he walks back in with a notebook and pen. He takes his seat again beginning to write, from where I was I couldn’t see though. I decide to walk over and sit beside him, where he freezes for a second but soon smiles. He was writing around ten different names, woah there must be a lot of people he’s suspicious of.
“I’m sorry there are so many names, but I don’t want to forget anyone” he tells me after finishing writing them all down, I take a closer look seeing if I for some reason would recognise some.
“Don’t be sorry, we can look through all of them one by one. You’re the Alpha, if someone makes you feel off there must be a reason behind it” I tell him with a smile, while I continue to read all the names off. “While I’m here and you’re racking your brain, this pack needs more fighters to protect itself, as you’re the Alpha we were hoping you would write any names of people you think would be perfect to be trained up” I say wanting to get all the tedious work done, he nods his head flipping over the page to write other names down.
“I said we had a lot of work to do, I didn’t know it would be getting done tonight” I laugh slightly while he continues to write, but he does laugh along turning his head to look at me.
“I’d do anything for you” he smiles which nearly took my breath away, I smile back to him before taking a look down at his list.
His hand was covering a part of the notebook where I couldn’t see the last names, without thinking I reach forward where our skin touches. Immediately, sparks of electricity shoot all the way up my arm. It didn’t hurt or felt bad in anyway, I liked the feeling. Confusion takes over my senses for a few seconds, where I turn to look at him.
He was already staring right back at me, his eyes staring deep into mine. I felt paralysed looking into his green eyes, every thought that wasn’t about Myles left my head. We sat so close to each other that our bodies were touching, something within wasn’t satisfied and wanted me to get even closer. His eyes move from my eyes to my lips and back up, where he slowly starts to lean closer to me. But before anything could happen, a phone in another room starts to ring.
This breaks me of whatever trance I was in, where I pull away clearing my throat a little. I’m on the job, what did I just nearly let happen? I need to get out before something does.
“I better get going, the team is still working so I need to see what they’ve found” I say standing up from the sofa, where he remained where he was.
“Do you need me to walk you back?” He asks placing the notebook down, I was leaving now as I didn’t want to see what could possibly happen if we remain in each other’s presences for much longer, that would not be professional behaviour!
“No I’ll be okay, you better get some rest as I said, we have such a busy day tomorrow” I say taking steps backwards out of the living room, he remained where he was watching my every move. “Have a lovely rest of your evening Myles” I smile before turning around and walking towards the front door, my body wanting to do the exact opposite.
“Goodnight Alaia” he shouts as I open up the front door, this does cause me to pause for a second before I smile and fully leave the house.
What came over me back there?
