After walking for about fifteen to twenty minutes, they arrived at the largest house in the area, surrounded by smaller houses. As the door to the house opened, Calvin was taken aback by its breathtaking beauty. He hadn't anticipated encountering something so impressive.
He lost track of time as they continued walking until they were eventually asked to sit. In the cover of night, he could only make out the presence of guards; there was no one else visible. After a while, a robotic figure approached them, carrying water and juice.
"Oh, look at that! A robot too," Zordan remarked, about to take a sip of juice when Calvin halted him, signaling him to refrain from touching anything.
"Let him have his drink, Calvin. I assure you, nothing has been tampered with," came the voice Calvin had been waiting to hear. He saw his sister moving cautiously with the aid of the staircase. It took him a moment to realize that she was taking small steps due to her pregnancy.
"Lee?" Calvin's face brightened into a smile. He left the couch and walked toward her, cupping her face. "Moon Goddess! I had no idea you were expecting."
“To know that you had to keep in touch with her, you know.” Calvin raised his head and saw her mate, who looked annoyed with the disturbance in his sleep.
"Shut up and go back to sleep," Liara glared at her mate, who wasn't in the best mood. He didn't say anything and retreated to his room. "Don't mind him," she muttered, turning her attention back to Calvin.
"I don't because he's right." Calvin smiled softly and embraced her.
"I'm still not big on hugging," Liara admitted, her voice taking on a heavier tone. "But never mind." Her voice grew heavier, and she hugged Calvin back.
"Thank Moon Goddess you're here. I was planning to send you a message anyway," Liara said, breaking the hug and getting straight to the point.
"Why? What about?" Calvin looked at her, puzzled.
"One of my patients has just come out of a coma," she explained. Calvin was unsure where this conversation was headed. "And... her scent! Her scent is familiar to Rose. As we both know, a pup carries the scents of both its parents until it grows older."
"I'm aware of that. Are you saying you found the woman who gave birth to Rose?" Calvin asked in disbelief, feeling a glimmer of hope.
"Yes!" Liara nodded firmly.
"You're pregnant, and you need your rest. Tell this to your idiot brother," a grumpy male voice interrupted, and Liara's eyes rolled.
"Um... yeah. Your mate has a point. You should get some sleep first. I can wait here on the couch for a few hours until you wake up," Calvin suggested.
"Oh, just ignore them both! Listen carefully." Liara's tone shifted as she continued, "The name of Rose's birth mother is Ethlyn Smith."
"Ethlyn Smith? I've never heard that name before," Calvin murmured.
"I've emailed you a video from the hospital. Check your email to see her face. You might recognize her," Liara advised. Calvin tried to retrieve the video on his phone, but there was no signal.
"Use the Wi-Fi to check the video. The password is…"
"Liara?"
"Moon Goddess, this man!" Liara sighed in frustration. "The password is Doctorliara@123. All lowercase, except for the 'D'." She added, "I understand that both of you are tired from the journey. Renee can show you to your room if you'd like to stay."
"We'll stay," Zordan replied.
"Good night. See you in the morning."
"Good night! Good night!"
As Liara left, a lady appeared before them. "Follow me," she mumbled in a sleepy tone. She showed them to their room and left.
"I hope you don't mind staying here. Since we're already here, we might as well spend the night, right? The consequences from your father will be the same either way," Zordan explained. Calvin didn't mention the lack of Wi-Fi signal as he was eager to check his email.
Zordan, too, peered over to watch the video Liara had mentioned. It was a clip from a hospital's CCTV camera. Carefully, Zordan observed a young girl who appeared to be in her late teens or early twenties, leaving a room.
"Is she the one?" Zordan asked, and Calvin furrowed his brow. "Did you sleep with an underage girl five years ago?"
"Don't even go there! I don't remember seeing that girl ever in my life. I might not have been in my right mind that night, but I'm certain she wasn't thirteen or fifteen years old," Calvin responded. "Also, Liara mentioned that the woman woke up from a coma, and judging by her appearance, she doesn't seem like she was in a coma." Calvin reasoned. A while later, they observed a young man exiting a room with a doctor.
"Could he be Rose's birth mother's mate?" Zordan inquired.
"Either you stay quiet, or I'll throw you out of the room," Calvin hissed in irritation. "But I do feel like I've seen him somewhere."
"Wow! You used to say that line when you saw a hot and attractive woman," Zordan teased. "I didn't realize your method of flirting had changed after these five ye..." He stopped abruptly upon noticing Keanu's presence. "I apologize, Alpha."
As they continued to watch the video, Zordan eventually spotted a woman in a wheelchair being moved out of the room.
"I think she's the one," he indicated, glancing at Calvin whose eyes widened in shock. Calvin's left hand instinctively moved to his cheek, as if he had just received a sharp slap to the face. "Alpha, do you know her?"
But Calvin didn’t hear him because all he could remember was a slap on his face and the background song playing at that moment.
