Lauren's POV
The first shock I got was the man knowing my name. I was frightened a bit because I didn't know if I was caught by Alec. "Who are you and how did you know me?" I asked him, feeling perturbed.
I looked around to see if anyone was looking at us but no one cared. "I will tell you when we are out of here," the man said.
I didn't know what made him sure I was going to follow him. I was in a very dangerous state now and I wouldn't let anyone lure me into what I wouldn't do. I looked at him and shook my head. "No, I'm going nowhere," I bluntly told him.
"Please Lauren, this isn't," he begged me.
Although he wasn't looking dangerous, he could not be seen with mere eyes. I went back to my seat and sat down. I was sure he wouldn't drag me out with a lot of people here. I was expecting him to back out but yet he sat with me.
"Please, I won't hurt you." I didn't want to believe his pleading.
"Can't we do the talking here?" I asked him with a frown. I have been tricked once in my life and that cost me irreparable damage. I won't allow any more tricks.
"I'm afraid that there might be a lot of ears that would hear what I have to say," he replied, profusely.
"And I am afraid of being trapped," I said, plainly. I wasn't going to risk my life again.
He sighed looking at me. I knew he must be angry at my redundancy but then I never cared. My life is more important than anything. "Okay, let's talk here."
I didn't expect him to agree that quickly and I watched him bring out his phone.
"I'm Paul, I work for Jefferson McDonald," he started.
I knew he said he wanted to say something about Jefferson but I never expected that he would work for him. Since I've been living with the McDonalds, I've never for once seen anyone come visit Jefferson. Well, that's because his brother is posing as him.
"I work for him secretly. Not many people know who I am," he added.
I wondered why his work for Jefferson was being kept secret. Then my mind went to the fact that Jefferson might be doing something evil. I won't be surprised if he does evil being that McDonalds had tricked and hurt me badly.
I kept quiet waiting for what he wanted to say. "His Highness business is having a little issue because of his absence and I do not know who to turn to. That was why I came looking for you," he revealed.
What he said was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. McDonald's company has an issue and he's coming to me. Moreover, isn't Alec posing as Jefferson?
"Paul, I do not understand you. Why would you come to me when the McDonald's company is having issues? You should either go to Alec or his mother," I said to him, already getting angry.
This was the reason he got me scared for nothing. I felt like Alec was trying to test my honesty. "No you are getting me wrong Luna," he switched to my title. The title I hated the most but I was cool to listen to him “I'm not talking about the McDonald's company. I'm talking about the JFex company that none of the McDonald's knows anything about."
Well, that caught my interest. Getting to know that someone was trying to keep the Alpha King dead was enough to think about, yet another revelation of him having a secret company.
"Explain more," I conveyed with enthusiasm.
The man seemed happy that I was ready to listen to him. Then he began to tell me about Jefferson's secret company which got me astounded. The most shocking part was that the company I had admired so much and that everyone had felt was ruling the world was owned by Jefferson.
"Why are you telling me all this?" I suddenly became interested.
"Luna, you are married to Jefferson McDonald. I need your help. No one knows that the Alpha King is in a coma and that his brother is impersonating him to get his position. I can't let it continue like this," he countered and there was so much concern in his face.
Seeing the way he was acting, I knew he was definitely none of the Alpha King's loyal men. His words moved me and the hunch to help the Alpha King gripped me the more. I might be forced into this marriage but I still want to do good if I can.
"But why would his family get him married while he is in a coma?" I asked. That was a question I've been battling with.
"Luna, I do not know. His Highness scarcely talks about his family," he replied.
I nodded. I felt like sharing what I found out from Macy with him but I cautioned myself. This might be a trap from Alec and if I fall, I might be ruined for life. "So what do you want from me now?" I asked him.
"Can you tell me what is going on with His Highness? I also need your help with the company. I couldn't find anyone more trustworthy than his wife," he uttered and it looked like I'd been his wife for a long time.
"Are you sure you can trust me? "I requested from him.
I was sure that for him to know about my marriage to Kelan, he definitely knew that I wasn't happy and that I was only there to monitor Jefferson. The way he was talking to me showed that he did his research well.
"Luna, I didn't come to you with doubt in my heart. I came because I’m sure you have the solution to my problems and I don't care about your past connections with anyone," he replied, intentionally.
I nodded my head at him. "Fine, tell me what to do and I would help with anything I could," I finally agreed.
With a brief thought, I knew helping him was also helping myself. At least I won't be alone in this whole thing and it would be faster to get Kelan awake.
"Thank you, Luna," he appreciated and as I left him, I couldn’t stop thinking about how muddled up the McDonald family might be. I didn't want to believe that Alec would be such a bad person to hurt his brother for power. No family would do that.
So taking Alec out of the way, I want to know which enemy the McDonalds had gotten to have done such a thing to Jefferson.
By the time I got back home, I didn't see anyone aside from Maya. "And where is the bi*ch coming from?" She asked rudely.
I looked at her knowing she was a frustrated one, I just let her be and walked away. Getting into the room Jefferson and I shared, I noticed there was something wrong. Jefferson's quilt was shifted. I tried to reminisce back to when I placed the quilt on him and I was sure I did it well, now one of his legs was outside.
Did he move?
