Chapter 2 First day at work (2)

After the introductions, Lesley was shown his office. The space was quite big but the painting was not exactly how he liked.

He made a mental note to change it to his taste. A lady was assigned to him as his secretary.

"Les, this is Clara Clark, your secretary" Ms Vin introduced.Clara looked a bit nervous.

He checked her out.Average, very slim with her long dark hair tied to a bunny. She has round face with sharp eyes and wears glasses.

"Nerd." Lesley thought.

She smiled warmly trying to conceal her nervousness,"Good morning sir."

Lesley nodded, "Good morning Ms Clark. I hope we will do just fine working together."

It sounded more like a statement than a question.

"Of course,sir." Clara replied.

"Okay. Before anything, I want the appearance of here to change. I like it a little dark and cool. This looks girlish, " He gesticulated like he was disgusted at the thought of his office looking girlish.

Clara smiled shyly, "Right away sir."

"Lesley, this is Nick. He would be your male assistant, driver and bodyguard depending on when and what you need him for."

"Mom, I don't need a bodyguard and I already have a driver which I rarely use," Lesley rejected.

"Listen Les, he won't just be your bodyguard or driver, he would be useful and handy to you in many ways. Don't worry, soon you will see how useful he is."

"Fine," He finally agreed. He wasn't so sure he had a lot of strength to argue with his mother. After all, she always wins or maybe he let's her win to avoid long talks and her acting all emotional.

He shook hands with Nick meeting his eyes. They held no emotions. Blank. He wondered why his eyes looked that cold but shoved it off when he remembered his nature of job. He needs that kind of look to scare people.

Nick looks strong with heavily built muscles threatening to rip out of his shirt. His eyes turned warm as he shook hands with Lesley.

"Good morning sir, " Nick greeted. His voice was deep.

"Lesley or Les will be fine"

"Nick please show him around and Lesley see me in my office after that," Ms Vin said as she left them.

Clara got into work immediately and began to change Lesley's office look like he requested while Lesley went to see Matteo.

"Hey man. How's it going? settled in fine?" Matteo asked, looking up from his laptop briefly. Lesley quietly sat down without saying a word.

A lot was going on in his mind. He really needed to see that lady again before he went nuts. He wondered what exactly he should say to her if he eventually sees her again. Maybe ask her out or just be friends with her. He knew she worked here but the department of the particular office is what he can't tell.

"Les! Les! What's going on with you? You have been silent since you got in here," Matteo asked. He had been watching him for the past three minutes and could tell something was bothering him.

Was it because of his new position, he couldn't tell.

"Matt, how many departments are in this company?"

"I am not exactly the person you should be asking that les, but I think it's more than fifteen. Eeeeerrm why?"

"How many ladies work here?" Lesley asked absentmindedly.

"Like I said, I can't provide you with such information dude. What exactly is going on with you?"

"Oh yes! Nick! Later man"

Lesley said and rushed out.

"You would tell over a drink tonight, right?" Matteo called as he left. Lesley had already gone far. He continued his work with a slight head shake. He wondered what exactly was wrong with his friend on his first day at work.

First, he arrived late for the meeting and had gone off in the middle of the meeting and returned later much disorganized.

Even though others might not have noticed, he saw that Lesley didn't pay much attention to the meeting when he returned from only God knows where.

He thought it might probably be because he never fancied being a CEO and had expected him to not be so interested at first even though he had no choice than to get acquainted with it but whatever was going on with him was much more than what he presumed.

He hoped he would speak to him about it later that night.

"Mum, I can't seem to find Nick my supposed bodyguard?" Lesley asked his mother, dragging the word bodyguard mockingly as he took his seat opposite hers.

"He would be back before you know it"

"Is he now your assistant? What's the use of not having him available when I need him?"

"Okay. That was for the last time. Henceforth, I don't send him on an errand without your permission Mr CEO," His mother teased.

Lesley groaned. "Mum, don't call me that!"

"That's what you are, son and you should get used to it sooner. I trust you son, you would make me proud."
