Mia's pov
Madriod left that morning with a serious look on his face. “Don’t do anything funny while I’m gone, Mia,” he warned, pointing a finger at me like I was some reckless kid.
I rolled my eyes as I waved him off. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll be good.”
As soon as the door shut, the silence felt heavier. It was just me and Elsie now, alone in Madriod’s house. Her weak breaths filled the air, and I hated how helpless it made me feel.
