"What are you both doing?" Zelda realized the weight of the dish of cake she was holding suddenly seemed too much for her to carry. Her Alpha, Grayson and her best friend, Delilah, are sitting so close with big, shining smiles on their faces, sharing a piece of cake.
Delilah was quick to scoot far away from Grayson, who had an unreadable expression on his face. The gears in her head spun, trying to think what to say.
"Uhmm, I saw that Grayson was working too hard; I then asked him to take a break. We have nothing on us." Delilah spun a few words together while pushing hot tears out of her eyes.
"I don't think it's in your place to tell him not to work too hard or try to talk to him," Zelda said with a menacing glare.
On the other side, Grayson, who had been quiet, "You don't have to be so worked up and jealous, Zelda. Delilah has no delusions of grandeur; she only tried to be helpful while you were gone." He defended and Delilah's heart leaped in glee.
She then glanced at Grayson and squeezed out a few more tears to get his sympathy.
"When I'm away? Does that mean she could care for you in all possible ways when I'm away? Do you know what you're spouting here, Grayson?" Zelda clapped back, her face red in anger.
Tears drop from Delilah's red eyes. She apologized to Zelda, "I'm sorry for any inconvenience. You know I would never harm you."
"She has apologized, Zelda. That's enough; it's not proper for a Luna to be so insensitive. Take her feelings to heart," Grayson said with a straight face while pointing at Delilah.
"Also, you should stop embarrassing her. For god's sake, she is your best friend…" Grayson continued to defend Delilah, which really irritated Zelda.
She was about to say something when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart.
"Ahhh..." Zelda cried out as she clutched herself in a bid to lessen the pain. She staggered, feeling lightheaded, and tried to brace herself against the wall. The pain wasn't new to her, as she had been experiencing it a lot lately.
“Come on, Zelda, don’t be so childish; I won’t blame you if you admit your mistakes,” Grayson complained with an impatient face.
Zelda collapsed to the floor as the pain intensified; she was unable to protect herself.
Looking at her pale face running with sweat, Grayson and Delilah realized Zelda was not kidding. They exchanged a strange grin and stepped to Zelda together.
“Oh god! are you okay? What should I do?” Delilah screamed with a concerned voice, but if Zelda had the strength to look up, she could only see an evil smile on her face.
“You go to invite the doctor, now!” Grayson said loudly and asked Delilah to go hurriedly, showing her a significant glance. Delilah quickly rushed out.
“I feel much better now.” Zelda felt the pain in her heart dwindles a little bit after a while. Seeing how Grayson cared about her, she was happy inside, and she thought maybe she should apologize to him for what she had said just now.
As she was ready to open her mouth, a sudden knock sounded on the door. Grayson gave his permission.
A patrol guard came in, and seeing him caused them to raise an eyebrow in surprise.
A patrol guard doesn't report a situation except if it is an important one and a security threat.
"Good day, Alpha, Luna." The patrol guard greeted with a bow of his head.
"What do you have to report?" Grayson asked seriously.
"Yes, Alpha. A rogue wolf was captured at the borders of the pack. We were hoping you could come to see, as no one has been able to handle his aggressiveness. He also has poison marks on his body which we couldn't identify." The patrol member informed. His words caused Zelda to have a deep frown on her face.
“Please go now, I am fine, and I think the doctor with Delilah will come soon.” Zelda smiled at Grayson and felt warm seeing his concerned face.
“Okay, you sit here and wait for the doctor, and I will come back as soon as possible.”Grayson stood up immediately and gestured for the patrol member to walk out with him.
Zelda noticed her agony had subsided after about half an hour, and she wondered why Delilah hadn't returned until now.
As soon as she had the thought, Delilah’s voice streamed into her mind, “Zelda! Help Zelda! The rouge attacked Grayson, and we need your help; please come to the dungeon now! Please!”
“Delilah, what’s going on? How is Grayson now?” Zelda quickly asked but got no response; the mind link broke. She tried to connect with her again but failed. Grayson was out of connection too. She worried so much and quickly ran out of the house.
She rushed forward down the hallway, then turned into a narrow way. The dungeon where the rogue wolf was chained was a bit far away from their side of the mansion.
“Grayson! Delilah! Are you there?” Zelda asked in a loud voice. When she stepped inside the dungeon, she saw an open window along the way and wanted to go nearer. Suddenly, she spotted a sneaky figure from the side of her right eye.
Her head whipped to the right to see no one there. Her face scrunched up into a frown as she tried to detect any movement. She was sure that she saw someone move past her.
Without closing the window, she turned and went away. Suddenly, she caught sight of a sneaky figure blocking the lamps' light.
"Who are you?" Zelda asked in a firm tone, her stance showing no fear. Her right hand morphed halfway into the wolf form, ready for any attack. However, her words were only met with the howling of the wind. She could also hear wolves howling in the distance.
“Oh god, what’s going on?' She thought to herself.
Zelda could smell the foul odor from the figure; she decided to attack. She would worry about defense later.
She moved swiftly and swiped her paw to strike the figure. However, the figure caught her paw, its sharp claws digging into her flesh. This confirmed that the figure was a wolf, a rogue wolf, perhaps.
The figure didn’t continue to attack her; he quickly turned back and began to run. Zelda followed him, suspecting he was the rogue who attacked Grayson and Delilah.
"You stop!" Zelda, with much effort, jumped up, leaped forward, and launched herself onto the figure, grabbing hold of its neck.
Zelda gasped, not because of the figure's suffering but because of its shrill and loud laughing. The sound of its laughter was amplified and it only made her feel a sharp pain in her heart, thereby loosening her grip on it.
The figure caught this chance and jumped out of the window. Zelda didn't think twice before jumping out of the window as well. I will definitely catch him!
Many times Zelda thought she had caught him, but he escaped immediately like a slippery fish, and the anger grew and grew in her heart. She threw herself on the figure and used her paw to drag his hood heavily. But the face under it shocked her terribly.
“Grayson?!” Zelda gasped.
