Zelda woke up to see herself lying on the bed with Grayson sitting beside her. She then noticed that they held hands. Zelda had never been so disgusted. She immediately slapped his hand away without thinking.
"What was that for, Zelda?" Grayson asked in a low voice, with a frown on his face. He then held out his hand to her.
Immediately after he asked that question, Zelda wanted to smack his hand away for the second time. However, she held herself back. "I'm sorry, I was lost in thoughts," Zelda said to him with a forced smile.
"Really?" Grayson asked again with narrowed eyes. Obviously, he wasn't convinced by her reason. She was quick to grab his hand with a little bit of force.
"I shouldn't expose myself yet. I need to teach this scumbag a lesson." She thought in her mind while staring at Grayson.
"Are you okay now? You should always talk to me whenever you're worried." Grayson put his hand on Zelda's shoulder while he tried to comfort her. Zelda was disgusted by his touch, but she couldn't show it.
"You carry the burden of the pack so well. You're a great Luna." Grayson sweet-talked.
"Thanks, Grayson." She answered curtly. "I need to get a glass of water." She added and stood up. A pitcher of water was always available in the bedroom, and Zelda didn't need to walk too far. She knew she didn't need any water, but she just wanted to get away from him.
"What do you think about making Delilah my assistant? She has proved to be a good helping hand." Grayson's voice sounded behind Zelda, but she didn't even make any effort to look back. She started to pour out a glass of water for herself.
The gears in her head were turning in a bid to find the most suitable answer to his question. She didn't want to come off as jealous because Grayson always found a way to turn everything against her.
"I don't think that's necessary, Grayson. Also, it would be too much for Delilah. I have something good planned out, and she has to help me. Kindly think about it, Grayson," Zelda said sweetly, acting as if she cared about Delilah.
"Is that so?" Grayson asked, his eyes narrowing at her words.
"Yes..." Zelda replied slowly, already lost in thought. She realized that some little things were changing, and she needed to make her change. Grayson didn't ask her about Delilah becoming his assistant in the previous life.
"There's something fishy here," Zelda muttered to herself.
"What's fishy? Are you sure you're okay, Zelda?" Grayson asked and then moved closer to where she stood.
"Sh*t!" Zelda cursed in her mind. She then plastered the sweetest smile she could pull on her face and turned to look at Grayson.
"I'm okay, Grayson. I just perceived a fishy scent." She lied through her teeth, but she wasn't even somewhat sorry that she was lying to the so-called Alpha. Looking at Grayson's face, she couldn't help but think he was working in tandem with the doctor from her previous life.
The doctor had checked severally for any illness related to her pain and was also responsible for her check-up anytime she felt uncomfortable. However, every result returned negative, and she was in good health.
"The doctor must have been Grayson's man." Zelda thought.
"I don't think you are okay, Zelda. It would be best if you took a break from pack duties; you look tired. On the other hand, Delilah could help with your duties while you relax." Grayson suggested.
Zelda forced a more sweet and silly smile on her face. "I know you care about me, Grayson. I just need to get some rest; we don't want to trouble Delilah, do we? She deserves some rest too." Zelda decided to tread carefully when talking about Delilah with Grayson.
He was just trying to get Delilah into the picture.
"Alright, I also think you need a lot of rest." He said and stepped forward to hug Zelda. She was hesitant to return his hug, but eventually her hands settled on his back. To the point where Zelda avoided physical contact with him.
"I'll get Lisa to come to stay with you. Just so you need anything. Is that okay?" He asked immediately after he pulled away from the hug.
"Yes..." Zelda answered, having mixed emotions concerning Lisa.
"You should get on the bed, under the covers. It's cold out here." Grayson said again and rubbed against her arms. Goosebumps started to line Zelda's skin. She was overly disgusted!
Zelda started to nod her head continuously to whatever he said. She just wanted him to get out of the room.
"On second thoughts, do you want to see a doctor? You should get yourself checked. You look so tired," Grayson suddenly suggested, and Zelda shivered. On one hand, she was tired of Grayson's fake concern. On the other hand, she was terrified of going to see Grayson's doctor in her new life.
"That is not needed, Grayson. I just need to rest." Zelda answered quickly.
"Alright, I need to attend to some pack duties. I'll see you later," Grayson lied. He just wanted to go see Delilah. He needed Delilah to watch over Zelda because he thought that she was acting strange.
"That's alright. You have always been a good Alpha to your people." Zelda responded, still with a smile on her face. By now, her face had started to hurt due to the never-ending smile.
Grayson chuckled lightly and stepped forward to place a kiss on her cheek. Immediately after, he walked away and out of the door.
Looking at Grayson's intimidating and cold back, Zelda realized how foolish she used to be in her previous life. She couldn't see the red signs and still forged ahead in their relationship. She never noticed how he always liked to bring Delilah into the picture.
With him gone, she would be able to think well and strategize on her next action.
Immediately the door closed behind Grayson; Zelda dropped the glass of water in her hand and rushed toward the bathroom. As she opened the water faucet, water gushed out. She grabbed a bar of scented soap and began to scrub her hands and face. She really wanted to get his scent off her body.
After scrubbing her hands and face, she still wasn't satisfied. She stripped herself of her clothes and got into the bathtub. In a few minutes, Zelda ran a hot bath and cleaned herself thoroughly. Stepping out, she walked out of the bathroom naked into her closet.
"This is better," She said to herself and then straightened up to look in the mirror in the closet. She decided to put on a loose shirt and shorts to wear.
Zelda suddenly thought about her wolf. If there was one living being that had been with her every moment, it was her wolf.
"Hey, Little Zelda," Zelda called fondly in her mind. She beckoned onto the soul bond she had with her wolf. Little Zelda is the name she had given to her wolf in her previous life. However, she received a displeased grumble from her wolf, which was oddly surprising.
But then she decided to ignore the displeased grumble from her wolf. "Are you there, little Zelda? What do you think about our new life? It's good, right?" Zelda asked eagerly.
"What new life? Was there a previous life I never knew about?" The wolf asked while walking around in Zelda's spirit mind.
"What do you mean? You don't know about our..." Zelda wanted to ask if the wolf didn't know about their reborn, but she shut up quickly when a thought struck her. She realized her wolf was displeased with the name Little Zelda.
Also, the wolf seemed confused about the new life she talked about. Everything implied that her wolf knew nothing about the previous life.
"What were you saying? Why asking such strange things?" The wolf clawed at their soul bond, desperate for answers since Zelda had gone quiet. Zelda was pulled out of her thoughts.
"Oh, it's nothing." Zelda decided to lie to her wolf. She reasoned that Grayson's wolf could sense something was wrong if she told her clueless wolf the truth.
"Little Zelda, you know everyone out there wants a life..." Zelda started to lie to her wolf, but then she suddenly heard footsteps, and someone was coming toward her bedroom. "Delilah..." Zelda said.
