"No, I must be hallucinating." Zelda chuckled darkly to herself as she turned away from the coffin. She wiped her eyes vigorously, wanting to get whatever had clouded her eyes out. A few seconds later, when she was satisfied with wiping her eyes, she turned around only to be met with the same sight.
She took in the sight of her naked body, and she couldn't believe it was her. "Haha..." She laughed with her eyes darting around. The people were still mourning, and the realization that she was dead was starting to dawn on her.
I can't be dead!" she said as she realized she was still in her own body. She then leaned ahead and touched her body inside the coffin. Her fingers passed straight through the body, and she suddenly became aware that she could not feel or touch anything other than herself.
"Alpha..." She heard someone call out to Grayson, and she immediately turned around. She had not seen him since she woke up and needed to get answers from him.
"We are sorry for the loss, Alpha. She was a great one;" the elders of the pack surrounded Grayson and gave their condolences.
"What loss? I'm right here, everyone. I was not a great one; I am still a great one." Zelda screamed out loud, her heart wailing in agony. She wished someone could hear her, as she still couldn't accept that she was dead.
"Can't you see me, Grayson? I'm your Luna, and you should feel me whenever I'm around." Zelda declared as she rushed toward Grayson. She hated the way he was accepting the condolences.
"Grayson, I demand answers right now." Zelda reiterated and tried to tug at his hand, but her hand went through his body. "What the heck!" Zelda whispered, standing rooted to the ground.
As she took in the scene, her eyes widened as she noticed that Grayson had her photo displayed on a table. There were a few flowers on the table, and she could recognize the picture. It was a picture Grayson had taken of her, and she liked that picture so much that she made different copies of it, large and small.
Zelda stood frozen as she stared at the picture, comments about her life going through the crowd.
"I heard she had a heart condition before she died. She probably was taking the weight of the pack on her small shoulders." A pack member said sorrowfully. His words didn't sit right with Zelda.
"No, my shoulders are large enough for the pack. I would never get tired of carrying the weight." Those words rang painfully in Zelda's mind.
The funeral procession was on, and Zelda watched as pack members laid different colorful flowers before her picture. On the other side of the funeral ground, Zelda's body was being dressed up in the funeral dress.
One of the council elders stepped forward to give a speech, "We gather here today to send off our Luna to the afterlife. With heavy hearts, we lay our great Luna to rest as she has sacrificed her entire life to the pack. Also..."
"No! she's not my Luna, and she's never going to be!" A pack member suddenly rushed frantically and said those words aloud.
All heads whipped toward the frantic pack member. Zelda, who was standing frozen, also turned to look at him. Her brows scrunching in wonder at his words.
"What do you mean? You have no right to speak against my Luna." Grayson thundered, stepping forward. His Alpha aura leaked out uncontrollably. Every other pack member felt weak in their bones, their legs shaking.
"Alpha..." The elder who was speaking earlier tried to calm Grayson down. The whole pack was trying to fight the overwhelming aura of the Alpha.
Grayson took a deep breath and then retracted his aura slowly. At the same time, Zelda moved closer to get a good view of what was happening. Her heart leaped in joy at the way Grayson defended her.
The pack member who ran out also took a deep breath and steadied himself. His defiant look against the Alpha and especially the Luna was evident on his face.
"You should apologize to the Luna under the heavens." The elder said, but the pack member snorted in disgust.
"I will never apologize to a person who is not worthy of being the Luna. She is not worthy of being remembered and respected even in the afterlife." The pack member declared.
"Watch your mouth, pup," Grayson warned again, demeaning the pack member to the level of a pup. But then the pack member wasn't even fazed by the Alpha's words.
"Guards, arrest that filth," Grayson said, seeing the member wasn't remorseful about his words. The guards were quick to action, marching past Zelda toward the member.
He was chained and held to the ground. Though he struggled, it still workless. Due to the chains around his body, he turned more defiant and crazy, his emotions leaking through his eyes.
"Why do you disrespect the Luna, who has sacrificed so much for the pack?" The elder who had spoken earlier asked. He had a frown on his face, as he couldn't believe the words spouted by the crazy man. He had known Zelda all her life.
The crazy werewolf snorted and said, "I saw the Luna going to the dungeon. I decided to follow her since she looked like she was in pain. I wanted to keep her safe, but then she went into the dungeon and let the captured rogue wolf go." He explained.
"That's a freaking lie; Zelda would never put the pack into such jeopardy." Grayson tried to defend Zelda again, but he had started to waver.
On the other hand, Zelda could only keep quiet as she watched people discuss about her. She couldn't even defend herself. Who would listen to her? Her head was spinning at the accusation leveled against her.
"I heard her conversation with the rogue wolf. Apparently, she had colluded with the rogue Alpha to destroy the pack. She is a bitter wench!" The crazy Werewolf declared.
"No, I did nothing of that sort." Zelda cried out, her wide eyes trailing on Grayson. She expected Grayson to refute the crazy pack member and take him out of her funeral procession, but his next words rendered her speechless.
"Alright, I'll investigate your words. You should be ready to face the consequences when Zelda is found innocent," Grayson declared through gritted teeth. Zelda, on the other hand, looked at Grayson in shock.
How could he not trust her enough not to investigate? She thought she had laid herself bare before him. She thought he knew everything about her.
"Alpha... You do not have to do that; the Luna would never do anything like that." The elder tried to defend Zelda, but Grayson then interjected.
"I'll never let anyone slander Zelda's name. I'll investigate, and everyone here will know the truth," He declared with a straight face.
"Take him to the dungeon. He should be tortured for interrupting the funeral procession for the Luna," Grayson instructed. "You and you go to the dungeon and investigate for any traces of Zelda. Check if she has been in contact with the rogue wolf." Grayson arranged an investigation, beckoning on two people.
"Yes, Alpha." The duo answered.
"Yes, Alpha." The guards that held the Werewolf down took him up and dragged him into the dark area of the mansion leading to the dungeon.
The whole pack members had gone quiet; no one wanted to believe that their benevolent Luna would put the pack in jeopardy.
Zelda looked around, expecting someone to step out to defend her. She had been to the dungeon only to check on Grayson. She also looked around for Delilah, hoping she would defend her.
“Yes, Delilah! She mind-linked me to go to the dungeon; why she didn’t tell everyone that?” this thought sent shivers of cold through her Spine.
Delilah was standing a few steps from Grayson. Though she had started to develop a dislike for Delilah, she expected Delilah to at least defend her. Delilah was her childhood friend.
But no, she didn’t stand out. Zelda shook her head in trepidation. She had no idea what to do but wait and hoped the investigators would discover the truth.
After waiting many hours, the investigators eventually returned. Everyone held their breath as they awaited the outcome of the investigation.
"What have you found?" Grayson asked solemnly, holding his breath.
"We found Luna's DNA in the dungeon. Also, pieces of her clothes were found in the dungeon," the investigators continued.
“Yes, you will find these things; I fought with the rogue there. They hurt me; it’s my badge.” Zelda murmured anxiously.
"Also, we discovered the clips from the cameras situated in the dungeon were deleted. We were able to retrieve the deleted clips, and we saw the Luna stepping into the dungeon and running out with the rogue wolf." The investigator said, waving his hand.
The second investigator stepped forward with a laptop in his hand and showed the clip to the Alpha. It was clear evidence that the Luna was involved in the rogue attack.
"Oh no..." Zelda cried out.
The whole pack was eerily silent, waiting for the Alpha's decision.
"I'll summon the council of the elders for the trial of the past Luna, Zelda." He declared.
