Wrath the notorious grizzly had once Again picked the scent of a potential human meal. Just some moments ago; it had picked up a similar scent that caused it to stand on its hinds and hawk the radius. Wrath had earned his name from the locals of Bear-Creek, owing largely to it’s gigantic physique and staunch- ferocity. He had many times attacked unsuspecting hikers and took their lives as souvenirs.
Condemned to living alone in the woods, Amelia had grown accustomed to surviving on what she could find in the Dark-pine. The presence of a mortally wounded stranger in her cottage had caused her to leave her cottage in search of aid. She had been banned from setting foot in the city and she risked getting hung if caught. With her face hidden in her scarf, and beneath the emblem of night, she dawned on a Pharmacy but stood in confusion, fearing to commit theft and fearing to allow Maximin die if she didn’t the get necessary materials to treat his wounds. With a deep breath, she headed into the store and walked to the salesgirl.
“ Hi. I need some help Please.” Amelia stuttered with her gaze bent to the floor.
“ Hello, how may I be of help mam?” The lady inquired while she peered at the strange presence of Amelia who wore an outdated cotton gown and a males coat.
“ I need some needles and a thread to stitch a cut.” She stuttered still gazing to the floor.
“ Sure, fetch them over there mam.” Replied the salesgirl as she gazed at the strange lady before her.
“ Thank you. Thank you very much.” Amelia stammered and turned before heading to the appropriate stall. In matter of seconds, she had taken what she had asked for and turned to take her leave.
“ Hello Mam. You will have to pay for those items.” The sales girl chipped with her eyes widened in marvel. Amelia ignored and kept going.
“ Mam!” The sales girl lashed out and stood up.
“ Me?” Amelia inquired after turning with a fake beam.
“ Yes. You have a pack of Needle and roll of thread. That’s six dollars.” Mumbled the sales girl.
“ I’m sorry. Aren’t these free?” Amelia stammered, slightly bending her gaze to the floor.
“ Free items are only found in the dumpster. Pay up.” The sales girl cautioned.
“ Okay, but Please, I really need them to save a patient. I’ll pay you soon he gets better.” Amelia breathed and began to walk away at a fast pace.
“ Thief! Stop her.” The salesgirl wailed out and caused a security guard from the blue to leap against Amelia, driving her to the floor with a thud.
“ How dare you try to steal Here!” The guard cried out as the sales girl rushed towards them.
“ Please, I need these items for an emergency.” She cried out on the floor.
“ Search her!” The salesgirl fumed and shoved her hands into the pocket of Amelia’s coat.
“ Well, what do we have here?_ a Rolex watch.” She breathed, taking Maxmin’s watch from the coat. From how she peered at it, Amelia could tell she may have found a way out.
“ Take the watch in place of the needles.” Amelia offered in a grasp to save herself from getting arrested and turned over to the police.
“ Deal. Let her go Liborio.” I’ve just bought her watch for Six Dollars.” The sales girl chimed and smiled at her luck.
[ Minutes Later]
Having to trade Maximin’s watch to save her head didn’t go down well with Amelia as she hurried through the dark woods to see patient. Only the ample rays of the moon provided a means of navigation. She could hear the growls of Wrath and knew he had once again picked up her smell. Slowing down her steps to emit less noises didn’t seem to stop her from hearing the snarls of Wrath. He was dawning on her and she couldn’t tell what direction he was coming from. She halted, took a deep breath and began to run.
A loud growl resounded behind her and with it came a tremor of steps that dawned towards her. As she raced through the uneven terrains of the dark woods, She stepped on a slimy object and stumbled across the ground. Without knowledge of what it was, she instinctively crawled away from it’s proximity before turning to gaze at it.
“Ahn!!!” She screamed from the glittery sight of a giant boa that lay swallowing an adult gazelle. Without hesitation, She crawled up and sprang away; amidst the vast darkness, running to nowhere in particular till she ran head-first into the stem of a Pine tree. Perplexed on the floor, she could see the silhouette of the beast as it pounced towards her. Amelia tried to move but discovered her limbs were too heavy to lift. If anything was to make her run, it was the Grey- Canines of Wrath and not even to that could she react.
Standing on its hind legs with it’s razor-sharp claws in the air, It pounced towards Amelia and as soon as she had screamed at the top of her energy drained voice, She felt a clutch on her ankle which began to drag her to a new proximity.
“ No!!!” She screamed while getting whisked away from the grasp of the beast that charged at her and her what ever it was that seemed to be saving her.
“ Maximin.” She muttered as a face was highlighted by the rays after it’s owner had paused to catch his breath. Challenged by his injury, he groaned, lifted her against his chest and began to run all over again. As fast as Wrath, he found it difficult to match the phase of the man that had denied him a human dinner. Only getting ambushed by a Pack of wolves had caused wrath to quit his chase, growling angrily in defeat.
“ You are bleeding.” She slurred as he lay her on the old sofa.
“ I’m fine. You should rest for now.” Offered Maximin as he staggered backward in dizziness.
“ You’re bleeding.” She slurred, tardily rose to her feet but felt lightheaded and began to fall until Maximin caught her body.
“ I’m fine, now have some rest.” Groaned Maximin as and gently laid her back on the sofa.
There was only one chair In the house and Amelia was sitting on it. Still standing in dizziness, the next thing he could feel was the coarse texture of the wooden floor of the cottage.
“ Maximin!” Amelia screamed and fled to his side.
“ Help me up.” Breathed Maximin as he panted Heavily “ Gazing from left to right as if suddenly uncertain of his safety.
“ No. Please lie. I will get some food and stitch your wound.” She sniffled in fatigue.
“ Help me up. I need to be outside.” He groaned, stomping his flattened palms to propel himself as he peered to the window.
“ You should rest.” She cried out, fearing for his health.
“ Now!” he roared like a deranged man, causing her to obey from fright rather than will.
“ Get inside. Quickly.” He ordered, after finding his balance in the front of her cottage; the cold breeze sweeping through his short locks.
“ What?” She stuttered in confusion.
“ There’s no time. Get inside now!” He cautioned with his gaze stuck on the dark bushes.
“ Okay.” She Stuttered and hurried away in fear of her own safety.
Amelia lay on the couch to catch her breath. Bruised and Fatigue, she slid into slumber without even planning to rest. As she slept, a strange noise from the kitchen had caused her to wake up, breathing an air of respite as she did.
“ You are Back.” She slurred and slowly brought her legs to the floor. There was no response; only an ominous silence that was quick to rouse her suspicion.
“ Maximin?” She inquired and slowly stood up, her gaze fixed on the door of the kitchen. There was no reply. She took a deep breath and slowly dawned further on it, peering religiously to make a discovery. Then on the wall of the kitchen; a shadow was casted; huge in mass and disproportionate in appearance. She gasped, swirled in fright and took to her heels.
