Jaxon was taking too long.

After the tour, I expected him to return to our chambers. But as the minutes stretched into an hour, it became clear that wasn’t happening. I wasn’t the type to sit around and wait, so I pushed open the doors and decided to seek him out.

The palace was massive, with endless halls and identical doorways and after a while, I realized I had no idea where I was.

I turned a corner quickly and walked straight into someone. Strong hands steadied me before I could stumble.
