As we stepped out of the car, Alice walked away without sparing me a glance. I knew why she was upset. I had refused to listen to her concerning what she referred to as Lily's situation, and now she was holding a grudge against me.

I tried to catch up with her, asking, "Are you angry because of Lily? Do you trust her that much?"

Alice stopped and turned to face me, her eyes flashing with annoyance. "Don't talk to me unless you're ready to hear me out," she said, her voice firm.
