Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Rita Quinn

Everything is still like a dream to me, after so many months. I still can't believe that the only parent I have left, died. How can life be crueler than this? I thought that we will be together forever, I thought he will always be by my side like he promised to. I know death is bound to happen to every creature, but I never imagined that my dad would leave me so soon.

A lot has happened over the three months that my dad and Mr. Orlando passed away. In a twinkle of eyes, my dad's companies are all gone and there's nothing left for me. Don't expect me to start explaining how come about that because even I have no idea how it happened. I guess I'm just unfortunate. That's all I can feel.

Felix has been going through a lot too, who am I to complain that he isn't comforting me? That'll be heartless of me. We both lost our parents on the same day, and it's really disheartening.

After mourning them for over a month, we both managed to pick our lives up and move on. We have started work already. Although I have been trying so hard to comfort Felix, he keeps acting weird and doesn't even let me anywhere close to him. I don't know why he's suddenly avoiding me like I'm a plague.

It's Tuesday today, and I'm having appointments with some of my clients. I woke up this morning, not feeling high-spirited, but I can't miss this appointment. I have to do everything, to maintain Mr. Orlando's legacy.

Felix left for work early this morning without saying a word to me. That is how he has been acting lately. He has been staying out late and at times he comes back home drunk. The sweet man I married a couple of months ago has turned into someone else. He's not the same man I married.

I glance at my reflection in the mirror for the last time, before I finally stride out of the room. I think I'll visit the hospital later after my appointment...

Three hours later...

We finally rounded up the appointment, and I head to my office. I crash on my seat tiredly. My body aches badly and my eyes feel heavy, and I kind of feel dizzy. I have no idea what's wrong with me, but seeing the doctor will surely help me pull through this.

A knock on the door pulls my attention, and I usher the person in. The door opens, and my secretary, Lydia walks in. She's holding a brown file.

"Ma'am, here's the file you asked me to deliver to you," she speaks eloquently.

"Drop it on the desk," I manage to reply to her, as I rub my fingers on my forehead.

"Ma'am, are you OK?" She asks with concern resounding in her voice.

"Yes, I'm fine. I'm just feeling a little tired. But I'll be fine. I'll go see the doctor soon," I smile at her, and she nods her head.

She finally drops the file on the desk, and with that, she turns around and walks out of my office.

My day in the office was boring today, but I'm happy that I can finally go see the doctor. I drive to the clinic and arrive there in less than twenty minutes.

It's my first time coming here, and I must confess that the clinic is quite big and beautiful. I stride to the reception, where a young beautiful lady is standing behind the counter. After talking with her for some minutes, she finally asked me to wait for the doctor.

Sitting on the waiting bench in the lobby, my mind drifts off to so many thoughts. I have been trying my best to forget my pain and move on with my life, I have been trying to push everything in the past, knowing that no matter how much I feel the pain, my dad will never come back, but it's not working. Knowing that I will never get to see my loving and caring dad again, the thought of it hurts me deeply. The pain is too much.

"Excuse me, ma'am. You're next to see the doctor," a feminine voice pulls me back to reality and I raise my gaze to see a female nurse standing in front of me.

"Oh, thank you," I stand up to my feet and heads to the doctor's office, after she gave me the direction.

Two hours later...

After I complained to the doctor, he concluded to carry out some medical tests on me. I have been waiting for my result for the past two hours.

A few minutes later, a nurse finally walk up to me.

"Excuse me, ma'am. The doctor seeks your presence," she says to me politely, and with that, she walks away. I stand up from the bench and stride to the doctor's office.

"Mrs. Orlando..." His face beam with a smile as soon as I step into his office.

"Yes, doc," I reply to him anxiously, as I wait for him to give me the test result.

"Congratulations, you're two weeks pregnant," he breaks the news to me, as he gives the test result to me.

I stare at him unbelievably for some seconds, before I finally take the paper from him to confirm it myself. My heart lit up in excitement as I stare at the paper. I'm really pregnant, I'm carrying Felix's child.

Leaving the hospital, I drive to the mall to get something.

I park neatly in the parking lot and step out of the car. Striding to the entrance door, the door suddenly rolls open, and I stop abruptly at the sight that welcomes me. Felix is coming out of the mall with a lady. They're both smiling happily as she clings her arm onto him. Anger sparks through me, and I quickly clench my fists. As much as I want to believe that they must be business partners, the truth is right there, staring back at me. The way he smiled at her, tells me everything. Felix rarely smiles at people, there must be more to know about this.

I watch as they both walk over to his car and drive away in it. They didn't see me.

After buying what I came to buy, I drive home afterward...

11:49pm...

The knock on the door jolted me out of slumber, and I quickly jerk up. Gosh! I fell asleep on the couch in the living room, waiting for Felix. He stayed out late again today.

I stride to the door and pull it open, revealing him. He's not drunk today, but he has the scent of another woman all over him. Like seriously? Did he keep me awake here while spending time with another woman?

"Are you not going to leave the way for me?" His cold voice thunders at me, and I scoff.

"Where are you coming from, Felix?" I ask angrily, holding the door still. There's no way I'm letting him into the house if he don't tell me where he's coming from. I've had enough of this nonsense, and this shit must stop. Today!

"What right do you have to question me, Rita? This is not your dad's house, but my house. How dare you question me about where I went to?" He fires back at me.

"The last time I checked, we're married. I deserve to know where you went to, and why you have been staying out late at nights. What's wrong with you, Felix? We lost two people important to us, is this how you've suddenly decided to mourn them?" I ask painfully, and he scoffs.

"Get the hell out of my way, Rita! Don't get me pissed," it's obvious that he's trying all his best to restrain himself from doing something nasty to me, but who cares about what he does? He should do his worse.

"That woman at the mall, what were you doing with her?" I have been trying not to ask him, but I can't take this pain. I want to be sure.

"Oh, you saw us?" The look on his face doesn't show that he's shocked.

"Are you stalking me?" He squints his eyes, and I scoff.

"Answer my question, Felix!"

"What did it look to you that I was doing with her? We went out to have fun," the corner of his lips twitches into a smirk, and my heart wrenches painfully. He didn't even deny it. Is this how much he hates me now?

"I have been waiting for you all day, and this is..."

"Stop frustrating my life, Rita. If you're not OK with this marriage anymore, then you can file for a divorce and leave my house!" He fires at me, as he pushes me off his way and walks inside, while I stare in shock...
