Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Rita Quinn

It has been three weeks already, and it's only getting worse each day. I have tried to endure all the pain Felix has been causing me, but I can't seem to deal with it. I have been trying to focus on my life and ignore all he's doing, but nothing is working.

He has grown from bad to worse, he now brings women to our matrimonial home. At times he'll send me out of the room whenever he brings someone home. I have only been married to him for barely four months, it'll be very sad that I leave this marriage. He's not hurting me physically, but he's hurting me emotionally. I don't know what has come over him, but leaving this marriage is the last thing on my mind. I have to fix this sudden mess.

It's late in the night as usual, and he's not yet back home. I have tried calling him more than five times, but he hasn't answered any of them. I wasn't expecting him to answer the phone though.

Sitting on the floor and resting my body on the bed, tears stream down my cheeks as my mind is crowded with many thoughts. Who knows, maybe this wouldn't have been happening to me if my parents are still alive, maybe he wouldn't have dared to treat me like this if his dad were to be alive. He's not to be blamed, for I blame the death that took away my protectors.

I rub my hand slowly on my stomach, as more tears find their way out of my eyes. I still haven't told him about my pregnancy. I'm scared of how he will react if I tell him. What if he finally let his demon out and do something stupid to me? It's obvious that he hates me now, telling him about the baby will only make things worse.

The sound of my ringing phone disrupts my thoughts, and I wipe my tears from my eyes before reaching out to the phone that's lying on the bed. Seeing Felix's phone name displayed on the screen, I quickly swipe the answer button.

"Hello, Felix are you OK? Where are you? Are you hurt?" I know I shouldn't be worried about him, I shouldn't care what happen to him out there, I shouldn't be asking him all these, knowing that he will be with another woman, but my excitement that he returned my call, make me want to know how he's faring. I love him, with everything in me.

"You sound so worried, darling," a feminine voice sounds through the phone instead of Felix's voice, and my heart sinks into my stomach. Did he give the phone to her to call me? Why would he do something like that?

"Give the phone to my husband," I sneer at her angrily, holding onto my phone tightly and venting all my anger on the grasp. My heart bleeds painfully.

"Calm down, please. Your husband is right inside the bathroom, having his warm bath. I just called to let you know that he's with me. You should come get him in two hours at Edmonds' five-star hotel. Do you know the place? I can send you the address if you don't know it," her sarcastic voice sounds from the other end, and a drop of tears slid down my cheek. What on earth have I done to deserve this from Felix?

"I'm ready for you tonight, baby," Felix's voice sounds from the background after I heard the sound of the door. It seems like he just stepped out of the bathroom.

My hand trembles as I hold the phone still to my ear, and in the next two minutes, the sound of their tongues clicking fills my ears. I need no one to tell me that they're kissing there. Slowly, I bring the phone down from my ear, while still staring into space. I feel so empty and broken inside.

For hours, I cry my eyes out until there are no tears left to shed. I know it won't solve anything, but what am I supposed to do, when the only way I can tell the world how I feel inside, is through my tears?

My eyes finally feel heavy, and soon, they slowly close as sleep takes over me...

Next day...

I woke up this morning to find Felix inside the room. From the way he was dressed, it seems like he just came back some minutes ago while I was still sleeping. He was still smelling like her, I mean another woman.

He has been inside the bathroom for some minutes now.

A few minutes later, the bathroom door finally opens and he walks in with a towel wrapped around his waist.

"Good morning," I greet him politely, sitting up on the bed, but he only glances at me and walks over to the closet.

I watch as he gets dressed and after he's ready for work, he finally turns his attention to me.

"The divorce papers are inside the cabinet. I already signed them, you should sign yours," my eyes slowly widen in shock as I stare at him with my mouth agape.

"Wh...what!" I manage to exclaim, getting off the bed. Ignoring me, he turns around and heads to the door.

"Why are you doing this? This marriage...what was it to you?" My lips tremble.

"A contract..." He finally turns around to face me. The corner of his lips twitches into a smirk as he stares back at me with no emotion on his face.

"So it was a joke to you all along? I thought you loved me," I asks him in between gritted teeth. My heart is bleeding heavily.

"I never said I did. We were just having fun and nothing more. The marriage... It was a contract which we both signed. What were you expecting? The only reason why I have been treating you like that was because of my dad! Didn't we talk about it? The only reason why we got into this marriage was because my dad found out about our secret marriage! I never said that I loved you..."

"What about the sex? What about the romantic moments? What about everything we had together?" I cut him off. He's saying the truth, but it hurts badly. I have been the fool all along. I should've seen the red flag all this while, but I chose to turn blind toward all he has done. He didn't fool me, I fooled myself.

"The sex... It was for fun. I never forced you, did I? You agreed to have sex with me and..."

"You can't do this to me, Felix. Just tell me what I need to do... Don't divorce me, I love you... I don't want to leave this marriage," I fall to my knees and plead with him, but his face remains hard with no emotion.

"Don't bother to come to the office later. You have been relieved of your duty as the manager of my dad's company. I'll handle it henceforth," he finalizes his statement, and without sparing me another glance, he strides out of the room and slams the door behind him.

My whole world comes crashing down before my eyes. Where will I start from? Where will I go with my unborn child?

Five month ago is where it all started...
